Academy central defender Tommy Smith won his fifth England U17 cap as his side secured qualification for this summer's European U17 Championships in Belgium. Smith played the full 90 minutes of a 2-1 victory over Serbia.

England completed a clean sweep of three victories at the elite qualification group mini-tournament in Bosnia.

Macclesfield-born Smith turned down the chance to play for New Zealand, the country where he lived between the ages of eight and 16, to play for England.

The central defender could be one of a number of youngsters breaking into the first team before the end of the season. Saturday's game against Plymouth could see Ian Miller make his first Town appearance and young midfielder Jai Reason named in the squad.
