Williams: I'm Staying
Williams: I'm Staying

Town midfielder Gavin Williams says he is staying at Portman Road for the long-term, despite apparently being made available by boss Jim Magilton during the January transfer window in the wake of the controversial Amsterdam trip.

Williams told the club site that he has no intention of moving on and talk of his departure was the result of a mix-up: "I'm very happy here. Ipswich is a great club and I am really enjoying my time here.

"There was a misunderstanding a few months ago when I thought the manager was looking to sell me, but I spoke to the gaffer and he cleared it all up.

"He explained that he wanted me at Ipswich but that any player at our club has a price. That's the way it is in football. It's the same with every club in the Championship and probably most of the Premiership as well.

"In a way it was a compliment that other clubs had noticed me, but I'm certainly not looking to move and I didn't fall out with the gaffer over it either.

"I really enjoy working for him and the coaching staff and, fingers crossed, I will be at Ipswich for a good few years yet."

In the absence of Sylvain Legwinski, Williams could be in line to play alongside Owen Garvan in the centre of the midfield against Plymouth at Portman Road on Saturday.
