Defender Ian Miller has rejoined Darlington on loan until January. The former Bury Town man previously spent time with the Quakers between February and March.

Miller, who signed a new one-year Town deal over the summer, will split his time between the North-East and Playford Road so the Blues can keep an eye on his progress.

Midfielder Sammy Moore is also set for a loan spell, at League Two Brentford. As reported by TWTD last week, Town legend Terry Butcher was at the Blues' friendly at Chelmsford and was clearly impressed by Moore's energy and last minute equaliser.

Boss Jim Magilton is also hoping to hear from other clubs interested in taking Chris Casement, Liam Trotter and Michael Synnott on a similar basis.

Lewis Price's situation remains in limbo with Lee Camp yet to make his move away from Derby County. Price is expected to be targeted by the Rams if Camp joins QPR. If there is no move by the end of the week, Magilton will field Price in one or two of Town's pre-season matches.

Magilton says he wants to see an improvement from his defenders when the Blues travel to Crawley on Tuesday after a number of lapses in recent games: “I don't like the way we are conceding goals in pre-season and to me that doesn't bode well. It is case of getting back onto the training ground and working hard with them.

“We got into a rhythm and routine towards the end of last season that I was happy with. Not just the back four, but the whole team as a defensive unit, so we need to get back to that.”

The Blues are yet to sign a defender during the close season, although Middlesbrough youngster Matt Bates has been tipped to return to Portman Road for a second loan spell. Bates, who can play either at the centre of the defence or on the right, impressed during a two-game stint last season which was cut short by a serious knee injury.

Striker Pablo Couñago picked up a slight knee injury at Rushden on Saturday but is expected to be OK to face Crawley.
