O'Callaghan Moves on Loan
O'Callaghan Moves on Loan

Midfielder George O'Callaghan has joined Brighton and Hove Albion on loan until January. Earlier, the Irishman was unable to agree terms regarding a permanent move to the Withdean Stadium after the clubs agreed a fee of £60,000 rising by £15,000 on appearances.

Brighton chairman Dick Knight said: "The player's agent was making excessive demands wage-wise, way beyond our budget, which I was not prepared to accomodate.

"I went back to Ipswich this morning with the loan idea, which they agreed with."

O'Callaghan's Town contract is up in June 2008 and it is likely the Blues will try to sell the former Cork City player once his loan spell is up in order to reduce their loss on the player they signed for around £70,000 in January.

Meanwhile, Tommy Smith was an unused sub as England's U17s progressed to the quarter-finals of the FIFA U17 World Cup via a 3-1 victory over Syria. England now take on Germany on Sunday.
