Marlet Trial Confirmed

Boss Jim Magilton has confirmed that former French international Steve Marlet will spend next week on trial with the Blues, as first revealed by TWTD earlier today.

Magilton said: “Steve has true pedigree and he is going to spend time with us.

“It gives us a chance to look at him, and he has a chance to look at us.”

Marlet, who won 23 senior French caps, scoring six goals, played alongside fellow Frenchman Sylvain Legwinski at Fulham and the midfielder is likely to be behind the Pithiviers-born striker's spell with the Blues.

The 5ft 11in tall frontman started his career with Red Star 93, moving into the French top flight with Auxerre in 1996 after six seasons with the second tier side. Marlet joined Lyon in 2001, before Fulham paid £11.5 million for him in January 2002.

After failing to make a huge impression at Craven Cottage — 19 goals in 70 starts and eight sub appearances — Marlet moved to Marseille on loan in 2003 and eventually signed permanently with German side VfL Wolfsburg in 2005.

Marlet, now 33, spent last season back in France with Lorient with whom he scored one goal in 22 appearances in the French first division.

Meanwhile, Magilton has revealed some of his loan targets. The Town boss says Middlesbrough left winger Adam Johnson was a player who interested him prior to his loan switch to Watford in the summer. Another Boro player, defender Andrew Davies, is someone Magilton could move for if the England U21 international doesn't join Hull City on loan.

The Town manager also revealed that he enquired about Aston Villa's Gary Cahill before he joined Sheffield United on a short-term spell. The Town boss is continuing his search.
