Bowden: Evans Deal Almost Done
Bowden: Evans Deal Almost Done
Tuesday, 27th Nov 2007 17:54

Chief executive Derek Bowden has confirmed that the club are close to finalising the deal which will see Marcus Evans become Town's majority shareholder, as reported by TWTD earlier today.

Bowden told the club site: "We have been extremely busy trying to finalise the sale of the club to Marcus Evans.

"I believe that we are almost there and, without wishing to tempt fate, expect that a deal will be finalised by the end of this week.

"At that stage those people who are shareholders will receive a circular from the club outlining the proposal and asking them to attend an Extraordinary General Meeting [EGM] of the club.

"It is our aim to finalise the transaction this side of Christmas in order that monies will be made available for Jim to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window.

"Again, as you would expect, planning has already begun within the coaching staff and hopefully we will be able to move quickly once the window opens."

If shareholders approve the takeover at the EGM, Evans will take control of 87.5% of the club. The mysterious billionaire is set to inject £12 million into the club to strengthen the playing staff, while he will purchase £32 million of Town's debt for a figure believed to be around £8 million.
