Newcastle Want Walters?
Newcastle Want Walters?

Newcastle United will make a £1 million bid for Town's Jon Walters when the transfer window opens, according to one of this morning's tabloids. Walters previously played under Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce at Bolton Wanderers.

Town, with £12 million of Marcus Evans's money winging its way into their bank account today, would almost certainly not be interested in an offer of that size for one of this season's top performers.

Walters, who is contracted to Town until 2010, has previously said he is happy at Portman Road and, after a lengthy period of instability in his career prior to his switch to the Blues from Chester last January, may not be keen on a move at this point, even to a Premier League club.

The 24-year-old spent two-and-a-half years at the Reebok Stadium but left in 2004 in order to play first team football, his chances having been limited to one start in the League Cup and four sub appearances while with the Trotters.
