Annual TWTD Shirt Appeal
Annual TWTD Shirt Appeal
Wednesday, 19th Dec 2007 20:39

An appeal for shirts and other kit for football fans elsewhere in the world seems to have become an annual thing in TWTD after the Iraq collection a couple of years ago. Simon Jarrold is organising this year's appeal for Rwanda with the club having already agreed to contribute.

This is an appeal for help going out to the TWTD readers. My friend, the Reverend David Meikle is leading a church group of nine people from Ipswich going to Rwanda in February.

They will be visiting Kigali, Byumba and Kigeme. These places have been affected by the genocide that occurred as part of the civil war in 1994. There are several communities where there are now many orphans because of the tragic events that took place.

There is now peace in Rwanda after almost 60 years of intermittent conflict. By visiting the country the group is hoping to bring some hope to some of the people.

As part of this, David was wondering if he could take some old Ipswich Town shirts across with him. He is in correspondence with the communities there and they are mad football fans. They would be thrilled if they could get some old Town shirts to keep and play football in.

If anyone has any old shirts they don't want then David and I will be collecting them at the TWTD stall by the Sir Alf statue on Saturday before the Burnley game. We will be there from 1pm until kick off. It might be a good time to hand in your old shirts with Christmas only three days later. Alternatively you could phone David on 01473 439113 to arrange collection.

Many thanks for your support. Up the Town and have a very happy Christmas everybody.
