Boss Jim Magilton has suggested David Healy's loan move to Portman Road may not be quite as likely as some sources reported last night. The Town manager told a Belfast newspaper that Fulham are yet to give the Northern Ireland striker permission to join the Blues.

Magilton said: "He is still very much part of Fulham's plans but if that was to change I would snap their hands off for him.

"They are in a precarious position trying to stay in the Premier League and they have got to get themselves out of that position. If I was Mr Hodgson I would not be parting with one of my prized assets.”

Various reports from sources at Northern Ireland's game with Georgia last night, in which Healy scored at both ends, claimed that the former Manchester United and Leeds man would join the Blues on loan today. Magilton is looking to add a striker and a central defender to his squad before this evening's deadline.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United frontman Shola Ameobi is being linked with a loan move to Stoke City. Town and Norwich City were reported to be interested in the former England U21 international over the weekend.
