Sheepshanks: Signings By the End of the Month
Sheepshanks: Signings By the End of the Month

Chairman David Sheepshanks says Town could add to their squad before the end of the month. Leicester central defender Gareth McAuley has already emerged as the favourite to be the Blues' first summer addition after the Foxes were relegated to League One on the final day of the season.

Sheepshanks said: "Pre-season training will start towards the end of next month and the manager wants to have his newcomers in by then.

"Hopefully one or two might be signed by the end of this month, although you can never tell how long these things take - as we have found in the past.

"There will be players leaving once their contracts end, while one or two who are not out of contract in the summer could also be on their way.”

Already it has been announced that Jason De Vos, Sylvain Legwinski and Fabian Wilnis will leave the club over the summer, while Dean Bowditch and Sito are out of contract and are also expected to be on their way out.

Matt Richards has another year on his Town deal, but could join loan club Brighton over the summer unless there is interest from a Championship side, while there is likely to be speculation regarding fringe players such as Gavin Williams, Gary Roberts and Dan Harding.

Yeovil boss Russell Slade has said he would like to keep Jaime Peters at Huish Park, but the Canadian may prefer to remain at Portman Road and the Glovers might not be able to afford the fee the Blues would ask for the 21-year-old, who is contracted until 2010.

Last month, chief executive Derek Bowden told TWTD that Town had around two-thirds of Marcus Evans's £12 million initial investment still to spend. Jim Magilton has already started his moves towards adding to his squad, missing Monday's 1978 celebrations because he was on a scouting mission.
