Wilson Selling Medals
Wilson Selling Medals
Thursday, 3rd Jul 2008 08:44

Former Blue Kevin Wilson is selling his medals at an auction in Derby today. Wilson, who was at Portman Road between 1985 and 1987, is offering his 1986/87 Town Player of the Year award in addition to other memorabilia from his career.

The former Northern Ireland international striker, who lives in Northampton these days, says money isn't the main motivation for his decision to sell: "I just realised I've got these awards but they're just sitting in the cupboard gathering dust. It might be the right time to let them go - I'll always have the memories. I'll make sure they go to the right home - it'd be great if a fan bought them."

The auction is being held today at Bamfords in Derby with Wilson's Division Two and Zenith Data Systems Cup winner's medals also included in the lot.

Meanwhile, Town are reported to have saved £250,000 from their annual off-pitch wage bill since Marcus Evans came to the club. The vast majority of this saving is likely to come from finance director Anna Hughes not being replaced when she left earlier in the year and chairman David Sheepshanks's move to a non-executive unsalaried role.

A Town spokesman said: "The club is being run effectively and the changes that have been made reflect this. There is a budget for all things, but it will not affect efficiency.”

Elsewhere, Colchester are reported to have slapped a £1 million price tag on the head of striker Kevin Lisbie. Town were reported to be interested in the former Charlton man, however, if yesterday's reports are to be believed, the Blues are keener on signing Crewe frontman Nicky Maynard.
