Boss Jim Magilton has revealed he has made enquiries regarding keepers other than number one target Richard Wright. The Town manager also says he expects to name the club's new goalkeeper-coach early next week.

Magilton told the club site: "It's been well documented that we would be interested in Richard if he is available, but we have also enquired about other keepers.

"It can be a slow process, bringing in players. It can be similar to moving house in that all the links in the chain have to be in place before things happen, but we are moving in the right direction now.

"Patience is not something that comes easily to me, but the most important factor is that we get the right player at this football club."

In addition to Wright, other glovesmen linked with the Blues over the summer include Fulham keepers Kasey Keller and Antti Niemi, released Aston Villa stopper Thomas Sørensen, Liverpool youngster David Martin and Linfield's Alan Mannus.

Magilton says he is edging closer to naming his new goalkeeper-coach, Andy Rhodes having left the club last month: "We will be making an announcement very soon.

"I've spoken to four or five candidates and there are some very good people interested in taking up the position.

"We are at the stage now where we are discussing the final details and then we can move on from there. I'm hoping it will all be tied up over the weekend or at the start of next week."

Former Town youth keeper James Hollman has confirmed that he has been interviewed and appears to be the favourite for the position, while Malcolm Webster, who was the Blues' keeper-coach under George Burley, has said he would leave Southampton to return to his old job.

Elsewhere, ex-Town midfielder Matt Bloomfield has signed a new two-year deal with Wycombe Wanderers. Bloomfield join the Chairboys from the Blues in 2003.
