No Town Comment on Charisteas

Town have refused to comment on yesterday evening's newspaper reports claiming that the Blues are in talks with Greek international Angelos Charisteas regarding a £2.5 million move from Nuremberg to Portman Road.

The club are this morning quoted as saying that they "do not comment on speculation”.

The Blues previously issued a similar 'no comment' statement when Newcastle frontman Shola Ameobi was linked with a move to Portman Road. Town's interest in the former England U21 international was subsequently confirmed, while earlier in the week the Blues were reported to have quickly distanced themselves from stories claiming that a move for Crewe's Nicky Maynard was imminent.

The Charisteas story has subsequently been picked up widely in the UK, although there seems to be little if any coverage in either the Greek or German media.

A hero in his home country - he scored the winning goal in the Euro 2004 final - the 28-year-old is known to want to move to England, while relegated Nuremberg are set to sell their star players such as Charisteas, Czech international Jan Koller and Russian Euro 2008 star Ivan Saenko.
