Jentzsch Would Be a Good Signing

German TWTD reader Torsten Hase says keeper Simon Jentzsch would be a very good signing for the Blues and that Wolfsburg would be more than willing to allow him to leave. Early today, TWTD reported that German sources were linking the 32-year-old with a move to Portman Road.

Torsten told TWTD: "He is a very tall keeper [6ft 4in] and had done really well until a spell last season when he made some silly mistakes which, along with errors from some of his team-mates, saw Wolfsburg - who had started the season with high expectations - slip down the league table.

"Manager Felix Magath put Swiss keeper Diego Benaglio in goal instead and that worked out really well. Benaglio had an excellent time in goal which also made him the new Swiss number one. Therefore, Jentzsch has no future at ambitious Wolfsburg, especially due to his reportedly high wages.

"Jentzsch, who incidentally has an English mother, is really a decent, experienced keeper. I doubt that Richard Wright or the other players linked with Town are any better. Ipswich may not even have to pay a fee for him. Turkish side Antalyaspor were reported to have agreed a one-year loan deal believed to be in the region of €200-€300,000 (£160-£240,000) with Wolfsburg, before it finally fell through last week.

"Wolfsburg are very keen to remove him from their wage bill and would be very willing to do a deal. The same can probably be said about Jentzsch, who is currently training with Wolfsburg's amateur team.

"Reports in Germany over the weekend said that he left Wolfsburg's training camp for unknown reasons, but there is no concrete link to Ipswich so far.”

Richard Wright is still believed to be Town's number one keeper target and reports this lunchtime claim the former England stopper has held talks about his future with West Ham boss Alan Curbishley since returning from Malcolm Webster's goalkeeping course in Alsager last week.

It is possible that the Blues could be looking to sign two keepers over the summer with Shane Supple perhaps moving on loan to gain further experience once the season starts. Supple spent the latter part of last season with Falkirk, who have already expressed an interest in signing him up again.

Town have been linked with innumerable keepers this summer including Fulham's Kasey Keller and Antti Niemi, released Aston Villa stopper Thomas Sørensen, Liverpool youngster David Martin and Linfield's Alan Mannus. The latest name mentioned in connection with a move to Portman Road is another former Blue. Current Southampton glovesman Kelvin Davies is rumoured to be a Town target according to speculation on Saints message boards.

Meanwhile, Town owner Marcus Evans is reported to have joined manager Jim Magilton and coaches Charlie Woods on a team at Saturday's Sir Bobby Robson Golf Classic in Portugal.

Magilton was back in Suffolk yesterday after the event with Robson impressed with the Blues contingent: "It was a great day and everybody enjoyed it. The standard of golf was high with all the Ipswich team striking the ball well.”
