Dyer Rumours Gain Pace
Dyer Rumours Gain Pace
Tuesday, 24th Apr 2001 12:43

The Kieron Dyer to Manchester United story (see NewsNets end of last week) has gained pace with a report today that United have had a bid of £15 million turned down by Newcastle. Recently it was also claimed that Leeds had tabled £11 million which was also turned down by the Tynesiders.

It is also rumoured that United will go back for Dyer in the summer with an improved bid of £20 million, making Dyer the most expensive player in Britain. His wages are also likely to go through the roof adding up to a possible £3 million a year.

Leeds will certainly remain interested in the player while Juventus are also seen as outsiders for the former Town player.

David Sheepshanks will be monitoring the situation closely as Town will take an undisclosed percentage of any profit Newcastle make from selling Dyer. Newcastle paid £6 million (rising to £6.5 on appearances, England caps etc) to Town back in the summer of 1999.

Mark Burchill is included in the Scotland U21 side playing in Poland tonight. The loanee will want to impress Craig Brown into putting him back in the full side.

Town are likely to have Matt Holland (Ireland), Amir Karic (Slovenia) and Hermann Hreidarsson (captain, Iceland) all involved in full international games tomorrow.

There's a new feature on the site where you can add to the plaudits directed at George Burley and David Sheepshanks; the men behind the Town. While the players have been superb on the pitch it has been the tireless work and shrewd money management and purchases of Burley and Sheepshanks over the last six years which have got us where we are today.
