Planning Meeting Tomorrow
Planning Meeting Tomorrow
Tuesday, 24th Apr 2001 14:01

The new North Stand plans will be discussed by councillors tomorrow with some local residents unhappy at the effect the new structure may have on the properties' values. They are also concerned that their quality of life might be affected.

Town have already agreed to buy the houson the end of the row on Alderman Road which is currently used as a homeless hostel. They have agree to arrange for the hostel to be moved. Residents claim that they were only informed of plans a few weeks back and that they are being forgotten as the club seeks to build on this season's success.

The residents plan to attend tomorrow morning's meeting to lobby against development. One unnamed resident said: "It would have been nice if the quality of our lives had been taken into consideration. We have over 50 objections to the development."

Most residents in the area are short-term council tenants and these have been offered new housing elsewhere. It is those who are owner-occupiers who are the ones peeved.

Davd Sheepshanks said: "I can sympathise with the view that it has all happened relatively quickly, because it has. It was only a couple of months ago when we were sure of our continued Premiership status that the directors felt able to press on with plans for the stand."

He added that while he realised it was tricky pleasing everyone, the club has done as much as it can to meet the wishes of residents.

The Council's planning officers said last week recommended that the plans be accepted.
