Haynes Back for Wolves Clash?

Boss Jim Magilton is considering whether to recall Danny Haynes to his side for Saturday's home game with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Haynes was left on the bench at Burnley last week, despite scoring twice against Leyton Orient in the Carling Cup.

Magilton said: "With the confidence that our crowd gives him Danny can be a match winner at home, as he showed when given more room in the Carling Cup victory over Leyton Orient.

"He will be in line for a place tomorrow and then we have Tuesday's match at home to Colchester when I will again be making changes and giving some of those that do not feature tomorrow a chance to show me what they can do.”

Haynes is likely to take a wide midfield role with Liam Trotter perhaps the man dropping out, the former England U19 international going to the right flank and Jon Walters to the left.

Magilton has shown a tendency to make significant changes to his team in the season's opening fortnight, but after last week's victory is likely to stick with the core of the side which won at Turf Moor.

Richard Wright is a certain starter in goal, while Alex Bruce is set for the right-back role with David Wright not yet ready for a return to the first team. The former Wigan and Crewe man injured ankle ligaments against Preston but was back in light training earlier in the week.

At the centre of the defence, Gareth McAuley and Richard Naylor impressed against the Clarets and will probably continue against Mick McCarthy's men. Ben Thatcher will make his home debut at left-back.

In central midfield, Veliche Shumulikoski and Tommy Miller are likely to get the nod as at Turf Moor with Owen Garvan, who earlier in the week was withdrawn from the Irish U21 squad due to illness, on the bench.

Iván Campo is not yet fit enough to be considered, but may be involved against Colchester on Tuesday, probably from the bench. David Norris is also likely to be included in the 18 for the Carling Cup match after missing much of pre-season due to a heel injury.

Up front, Kevin Lisbie has scored in both his two Town league games so far, but Magilton will have decide whether Alan Lee or Pablo Couñago partners the Jamaica international. The Irishman may well be preferred to the Spaniard after an impressive display last week.

Magilton has warned his players that with plenty of competition in teh squad, no one is guaranteed a place: "For the first time under my managerial role our players must realise that they may not have too many opportunities.

"I have a larger number of players to select from and will be looking for a statement of intent when the team goes on to the field.

"Mick McCarthy, the Wolves manager, will ensure that they give us a very tough game tomorrow and I will need all the players that I put out to be at their best to collect three points.”

McCarthy says his side will play in much the same attacking manner as they did in last week's 4-1 home victory over Sheffield Wednesday: "It's very different away from home but it should have the advantage of making it a big, open game.

"We played that way for 90 per cent of the games last season away from home. We played 4-3-3 at Crystal Palace and beat them – that was my plan to play the same way when we lost to them here.

"We did the same at Burnley and won that game playing 4-3-3 and playing really well that day.

"But in the main, we play 4-4-2 and had a decent away record last season."

McCarthy is without former England U21 keeper Matt Murray, who is once again out of action having picked up a cruciate knee injury during pre-season training.

Skipper Jody Craddock is sidelined for up to three months with a broken metatarsal during which time midfielder Karl Henry will take the armband.

Winger Lewis Gobern has a knee injury and isn't expected to be back in contention until December.

Town have generally had the better of Wolves over the years, winning 27 times (26 in the league), drawing on 19 occasions (16) and falling to 25 defeats (22).

Last season, goals from Alan Lee, Pablo Couñago and Danny Haynes gave the Blues a 3-0 victory over Wolves at Portman Road, while the teams drew 1-1 at Molineux on the penultimate fixture of the season, Tommy Miller netting a final minute freekick for Town, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake having opened the scoring for the home side.

No member of the current Town squad has been a Wolves player or vice versa, although Ben Thatcher was at Molineux on trial over the summer before deciding to join the Blues.

Issue 93 of TWTD will be on sale prior to the game. Star of 1992 - and of one of TWTD's most famous early covers - Chris Kiwomya is interviewed, while Roger Hermiston talks to Jim Magilton about his surprising basketball influence and Gavin Barber assesses the summer transfer speculation.

Our sellers will be around the ground from 1pm (by Sir Alf and next to the Portman Road entrance to the Greene King Stand). Click here to order a single copy, or to subscribe.

Saturday's referee is Steve Tanner, a member of the Select Group of Premier League officials and who is also on the FIFA list. Last season the Somerset-based ref showed 103 yellow and three red cards in 34 games.

Tanner's last Town game was the 1-1 derby draw with Norwich City at Carrow Road in April 2004.

Likely squad: Wright, Supple, Bruce, Thatcher, Balkestein, Naylor, McAuley, Smith, Shumulikoski, Miller, Garvan, Haynes, Walters, Trotter, Quinn, Lisbie, Lee, Couñago, Rhodes.
