Chester: Walters's Future Up in Air
Chester: Walters's Future Up in Air
Friday, 29th Aug 2008 10:50

Chester City manager Simon Davies has revealed that his club has spoken with Jon Walters's representatives regarding the striker's future. Chester are entitled to 20% of the profit the Blues make on Walters should he move on.

The frontman or midfielder is believed to want to move to a club nearer to his family in the North-West and boss Davies says the Republic of Ireland B international's former side have been monitoring the situation closely: "The club itself has had contact with his representatives to see what the script is.

"It depends if the player gets his wishes or not. It's another one that's up in the air. Like most things in football, they can happen very quickly. Until it happens, we'll just have to sit tight.”

Chester sold Walters to Town for £100,000 plus appearance top-ups in January 2007. With Town believed to want £3 million for the 24-year-old, the League Two club's financial situation would be transformed by the one-time Blackburn trainee leaving the Blues.

Stoke have consistently been linked with Walters, while more recently West Brom have been tipped to make a move. Town have denied that Walters has asked for a move on a number of occasions and say they have received no bids.

Meanwhile, Jim Magilton says the Blues are still looking to add a striker to their squad before the transfer window closes on Monday. Magilton has targeted a number of options over the summer but is still to recruit the big target man he has been looking for for a couple of years, initially targeted Dele Adebola back in the summer of 2006.

The Town manager said: "There is a little bit of desperation perhaps, but we are on top of the situation and still talking.

"If not, we can look into the loan market from Tuesday onwards, although that would rule out foreign players and Premier League players, and also have time to do some homework before the transfer window opens again in January.

"We need to get some confidence into the team and to settle down and get the balance right and when we do I am sure we will be as effective as what Wolves were at Portman Road last Saturday.”

There appears to be some confusion regarding the situation with emergency loans this season with some reports suggesting that Football League clubs are unable to recruit Premier League players on a temporary basis after Monday's transfer window closes. However, TWTD checked this with the Football League, who told us the emergency loan rules are the same this season as they were last year.

Magilton says Alan Lee's move to Palace could still happen, despite currently being stalled: "It is up to Alan now and I will leave it up to him and if a deal does go through I think it will be best for him and the club.

"But if not then Alan will be back with us and continue to be a valuable member of our squad.”

Lee was back at Playford Road this morning, but looks unlikely to play any role against Watford on Saturday.
