Town and Norwich City are both reported to be keeping a close eye on Histon defender Lanre Oyebanjo. The 18-year-old, primarily a right-back but who can also play across the back four, has broken into the Blue Square Premier side's first team this season and is seen as having a big future.

Oyebanjo, 6ft 1in tall, will certainly have been watched by Town scouts when playing alongside academy striker Paul Murphy in the Republic of Ireland U19 side at the recent four-team tournament hosted by the Irish. If the Blues are interested in Oyebanjo he would be seen as very much one for the future rather than a player to go into Jim Magilton's first team squad.

Released by Brentford in the summer, English-born Oyebanjo has made a big impact with his new club, signing a two-year deal last week when manager Steve Fallon said: "Lanre has done everything right in pre-season and was unlucky to not make the starting eleven against Torquay, but things in football things change very quickly and with Craig Pope leaving us it provided Lanre with a wonderful opportunity to show what he can do.

"On Saturday at York he gave us a lot to be excited about and so we have moved quickly to secure his services. He is away with Ireland 19s this week [at the four-team tournament] playing against Spain and Portugal and if the lad does half as well as he did Saturday, he will have clubs all over him, so we are delighted he has signed up for two years with us.

"He is composed, calm and very comfortable on the ball and with his pace can support the attack as well as provide cover when our attack breaks down, he really is a very exciting young prospect who I think the fans will really warm to.”
