Bowden Confirms Town Were Close to Signing Wednesday, 3rd Sep 2008 12:25 Town chief executive Derek Bowden has confirmed that the Blues were close to signing another player on Monday prior to the transfer window's closure. The identity of the player remains a mystery, although a report earlier today claimed it was a defender. Bowden told the club site: "We had been tracking a player for some time and it looked like there was going to be some movement at his club. "But after being told initially that the club would be willing to listen to offers for the player, they then decided they didn't want to sell him, so it fell through at around 9pm. "The loan window opens again next Monday though, and we have one or two other targets that we can bring in on 93-day loans. "It's about bringing in the right players for the right money though, both in terms of fees and wages, so we are quite careful about how we spend the money."
