Boss Jim Magilton has confirmed Charlton's interest in midfielder Iván Campo, but says the swap deal involving Darren Ambrose reported in a number of national newspapers this morning is far from imminent.

Magilton, who again confirmed his interest in former Blue Ambrose, has revealed that Addicks boss Alan Pardew made an enquiry regarding Campo earlier this week: "Alan Pardew did ask me about Iván after Tuesday's game having been impressed with his performance in our match at Charlton earlier this month.

"But that is as far as it went and I have nothing else to report. If he wants to take it any further then he only has to pick the phone up and speak to me.

"Iván may not be in the team at the moment but he is a massive influence at this football club and I know the importance of him.”

Campo joined the Blues on a free transfer in the summer, but has yet to make a first team place his own with Veliche Shumulikoski impressing in the deeper central midfield role in recent games.

Magilton was first linked with a with a move for 24-year-old Town academy product Ambrose back in November 2007 and on a number of occasions since then. Ambrose is out of contract next summer and can talk to other clubs regarding Bosman moves from January.

Meanwhile, chief scout Steve McCall is currently in Argentina scouting as the Blues look for players ahead of the January transfer window.
