TWTD reader and lifelong Town fan Dan Botten has published a new book Ipswich Town: On This Day, from which we will be taking extracts throughout the week. We'll also be running a daily competition in which you can win a copy.

Ipswich Town: On This Day, which we reckon is an ideal stocking filler for Town fans everywhere, charts, on a day-by-day basis, the major events in the club's history. It includes individual entries for every day of the year, plus multiple listings for busier times, as promotions, relegations, sensational signings, important matches and unique trivia are covered.

Wednesday November 21st 1979

On this day, Dutch midfield maestro Frans Thijssen, signed by Town from FC Twente only nine months previously, scored for Holland as they defeated East Germany 3-2 in a European Championship qualifier in Kiev.

Question: Which other English club did Frans Thijssen play for?

a) Nottingham Forest
b) Manchester City
c) Derby County

Send your answer to competition@twtd.co.uk before 9am on Monday and the winner will be drawn out at random from the correct responses.

If you can't wait to get your copy or never win competitions, you can buy Ipswich Town: On This Day at the bargain price of £6.99 via TWTD here or it is also available in Planet Blue ahead of Saturday's game against Derby.

Other Town books available this Christmas include Mel Henderson's Match of My Life, featuring the likes of Jim Magilton, Mick Mills, Ray Crawford, Roger Osborne, Kevin Beattie, John Wark, Allan Hunter, Bryan Hamilton, Trevor Whymark and Alan Brazil, which you can get here for £11.89, while copies of Mel's 1978 FA Cup Story signed by Roger Osborne are also still available via TWTD.
