Delaney Signs for Town
Delaney Signs for Town
Thursday, 2nd Jul 2009 16:23

Damien Delaney has finally put pen to paper and signed a two-year contract to join Town. Rumours have been circulating for over a month now, broken initially by our sister site LoftForWords.co.uk at the end of May.

Delaney's switch is said to have been held up by the managerial change at Loftus Road which saw former Blues boss Magilton take over from Paulo Sousa. While it appears there is nothing in recent reports claiming that the Northern Irishman would completely scupper the deal, that move and a number of others which were progressing prior to his arrival appear to have been on hold in recent weeks, presumably while he assessed his squad.

Cardiff City were also believed to be interested in Cork-born Delaney, who is well known to Town first team coach Tony Loughlan from his time at Leicester City's academy.

"I'm looking forward to the next step in my career here at Ipswich Town," Damien told the club site.

"I have spoken to the manager, Roy Keane, and it's clear that this club is very ambitious and I'm delighted to be part of trying to take the Club forward."

Town manager Roy Keane said: "I'm delighted that Damien has agreed to join us. He's a player that I have kept an eye on for a while and I'm sure he will prove to be a valuable addition to our squad."
