No Cap for Peters
No Cap for Peters
Saturday, 4th Jul 2009 09:06

Town's Jaime Peters was an unused substitute as Canada defeated Jamaica 1-0 in their opening game at the CONCACAF Gold Cup last night. Toronto FC's Ali Gerber scored the only goal of the game.

Former Blues loanee Ricardo Fuller played the whole match for Jamaica and squandered one good scoring chance, although he was a menacing presence throughout.

Other familiar names in the Jamaican side were Ricardo Gardiner, Jamal Campbell-Ryce and one-time Town trialist Jermaine Johnson. Paul Staltieri was the most notable member of the Canadian squad and denied Peters, Canada's youngest squad member, a run out at right-back.

The 22-year-old will hope to win his 18th and 19th caps when Canada face El Salvador next Tuesday and then Costa Rica on Friday.

Peters's involvement with Canada means he misses much of the first month of pre-season training with Town.
