Wright to Undergo Scan
Wright to Undergo Scan
Wednesday, 29th Jul 2009 08:31

Full-back David Wright will undergo a scan after picking up a rib injury in the first half of last night's defeat at Charlton. The former Wigan man was replaced by youngster Troy Brown after 33 minutes.

Boss Roy Keane told the club site: "We'll know more when Wrighty has a scan and obviously it's a disappointment to pick up another injury.

"The injuries are mounting up, with Lee Martin, Liam Trotter and Damien Delaney all missing the Charlton game, and they are touch and go for Friday against Real Valladolid, but hopefully we will have a couple of them back and I think things will improve over the next week."

Keane was happy with his youthful side at the Valley, despite the defeat: "I thought all the young players did well and I was very pleased with them.

"We have a lot of injures, so we had to mix it up a bit and throw some youngsters in against a decent Charlton side who were playing in the Championship last season.

"It was a big test for some of them, a learning curve, but you only find out about them when you throw them in and I was pleased with their response.

"Shane [O'Connor] probably sees himself as a midfielder but he filled in at left-back with Damien [Delaney] injured and he recovered well in the second half. He showed a great attitude and desire."

Charlton manager Phil Parkinson felt the match was a useful exercise: "It was a good game. Fitness-wise it was a great test for us as Ipswich brought on more and more experienced players as the game went on. In terms of personnel they became stronger as the game went on and I thought we coped with that well.

"I'm encouraged by the performance. It was our first and only friendly here at the Valley, so it was important we put in a decent display. We're confident we're in good shape at this stage of pre-season and we're progressing well.

"I played the strongest team we have at this moment. Everyone knows the squad needs improving. We all know where the gaps are but I thought the players who were out there did well.”
