Keane Confirms Shumi in Preston Talks
Saturday, 1st Aug 2009 08:12

Boss Roy Keane has confirmed that midfielder Veliche Shumulikoski is in talks with Preston North End, as reported by TWTD on Thursday. The Blues and Lilywhites have agreed a fee in the range of £400,000 for the Macedonian.

Keane told the club site: "We have accepted an offer for Shumi and he has been talking to Preston over the last day or so.

"He is trying to finalise bits and pieces here and it looks as though he may be on his way.

"We will know more over the weekend but if he leaves us, he will go with our best wishes."

Shumulikoski joined the Blues from Turkish side Bursaspor in January 2008 for a fee of £500,000, signing a contract until June 2010. Since then, he has made 33 starts and 10 sub appearances, scoring once.

Keane has also denied that a bid has been made for Watford striker Tamás Priskin: “Not that I'm aware of.”

A report earlier today claimed an offer had been rejected by the Hornets. Keane has also denied a newspaper report yesterday which claimed that former Wigan striker Henri Camara had decided against accepting a deal with the Blues.

If Shumi's contract runs out next summer, this is a bit of sensible management by RK; I seem to be in the minority, but I think selling JR (a player who's unproven above League 2 level) for £850,000 might turn out to be a good deal for the club too. If JR proves me wrong, I'll be happy for the lad :^D

'I always thought he was a bit like keane in someways'

Can't say I remember Shumi getting stuck in and enjoying a tackle - ball playing deep lying midfielder.

Always remember the first few times he played for us - dropping deep in front of our back four to collect the ball only to see Naylor, Bruce, et al launch stunning long ball passes to the opposition.

Time for Shumi to move on. Not a good buy.

Let Shumulkoski go then keane may as well be building a league one team for the 2010/2011 campaign. Not only is Shumi the only player who plays with his heart well and trully on his sleeve, hes the only player with any technical ability whatsoever. So i ask of you Mr Marcus Evans do the honourable thing and show Roy Keane where the door is.
