Mackay Denies Priskin Bid
Mackay Denies Priskin Bid
Sunday, 2nd Aug 2009 14:15

Watford boss Malky Mackay has denied claims that Town have made an offer for striker Tamás Priskin. Yesterday TWTD revealed that Blues manager Roy Keane and coach Tony Loughlan were spotted at Vicarage Road watching the Hornets’ friendly victory over Parma.

After the game, Mackay said: “There is nothing at the moment in terms of Tamás. I am seeing what you are seeing in terms of press speculation but until such times that something would come in, then I would have to look at it and then react to it.”

While Keane and Loughlan were seen at Watford on Saturday, the Town boss has also denied a TV report claiming that a bid had been put in.

Meanwhile, Keane has confirmed that he still feels he needs to add to his squad to make them promotion contenders: “Over the last few years you always look at the teams that were relegated and generally two out of the three tend to bounce straight back.

"So, in terms of promotion, you look at the teams that came down, then you look at the Cardiffs, who just missed out, and you have got your Sheffield Uniteds.

"I would like to think that we will be in the mix if I can get a few more players. The Championship is very difficult - 12 weeks of the season you are playing three games in a week, so that is the challenge we face.

"I do have the option of one or two loan players, and that is always nice to have in the back of your mind, but I still need a core of Ipswich Town players."

Keane has said he is after two more front players with the midfield and defence looking more established.

notice that malky did not say he would not sell him but said "but until such times that something would come in, then I would have to look at it and then react to it.” so quite possible that watford are willing to do business

We all know he's got 2 loan signings up his sleeve... a striker and a central midfielder I bet.

wel,we will have to sit tight and hope rk knows what hes doing,so far hes got rid of some wasted wages. But still would rather have kept haynes, for at least some pace,we obviously lack.Stating the obvious,a striker,is obviously needed.

priskin is a yet another player who is over valued by his club, he is a good quality player but not really worth the reported £1M bid. we should look for a quality player who is worth the big money e.g. D.healy, L. lita, S.ameobi or even G.rasiak from southampton would also be worth a punt. he is a hard worker and fits the big man that keane is looking for.although pabs + stead looks a good partnership for the season ahead.
UP THE TOWN!

Watford have been well publicised since their relegation from the Prem for being a selling club. The likes of Marlon King, Gavin Mahon, Dan Shittu, Darius Henderson, John Joe O' Toole, and (also imminently) Tommy Smith have been sold on in the not too recent past, at times where they have all been key players to them. It's as simple as this, we make a good bid and it is up to the player after that. Priskin would be an interesting buy but on the subject of Watford, I can't help but think that McAnuff on one wing and Martin on the other could be quite an interesting prospect

RetroBlue, keane's already said Geo's not coming back so unfortunately don't get you hopes up on that one. I think we'd all like to see him back but it aint gunna happen

Priskin would be an excellent signing. We all know ITFC strikers are struggling for goals. Counago is injured, Stead simply isn't scoring goals and Lisbie is absolutely dreadful. We need a couple of strikers.

bristol city have had a bid accepted from an UNAMED club for Micheal Mcindoe, i wouldnt be surprised if that UNAMED club wasnt Ipswich? ? and another thing who ever keeps saying that keane should buy david healy is an apsolute armchair supporter thats just listens to football games n the radio!! we are to good for healy

Really not sure what to think or expect any more, this close season (probably more than any other I can remember) has thrown too many curve balls. I have faith in the squad we have but that faith is starting to get sorely dented, especially with the sale of Rhodes, the seeming reluctance of prospective signings wanting to come to Suffolk and some of the weaker results in pre-season.
I guess all any of us can do is just wait and keep the faith.

to much vino.
Is Roy telling us what we want to hear. Is is glossing over the cracks. I think he is supremely confident with what he has and the only team you need to watch is ITFC,

Billy Sharp anyone ? Could resurrect his career with us.....or how about snatching Tommy Smith ? Doubt we could do both as Sheff Utd have one and want the other !! I dont think Counago and Stead is going to work consistently all season - we need fresh blood up front - one big man one little man a la Mariner/Gates !!! I say Stead/Sharp with on bench Wickham/Counago.

Did we really need to sell Jordan Rhodes to table a bid for a player like Priskin?
I really think RK will live to regret that decision, was so looking forward to Rhodes getting a chance along with Wickham.
Don't think Priskin's record looks too hot just hope we can get these 2 strikers into the squad soon.

Whoops...hate new systems!!

Roo like your thinking in particular Billy Sharpe, lost his way at Sheff Utd, but worth a punt

I would have thought we'd have to be extremely lucky to get Gio back considoring the reported interest in him from La Liga clubs.
In terms of Priskin, he looks a good goal scorer and natural finisher and could work well with Stead but also play up on his own if need be?
Billy Sharp may be a good shout, and prehaps cheaper than Priskin, but is he as proven in this league?
