Keane Denies McAuley Row Claim
Keane Denies McAuley Row Claim
Monday, 24th Aug 2009 10:46

Boss Roy Keane has denied a report claiming that he has had a bust-up with skipper Gareth McAuley. One of this morning's tabloids claimed that the Town manager was ready to sell the Northern Ireland international in the wake of the alleged row.

Keane said: "Gareth's been fine. I find him a good lad, a good professional. He was on the bench the other day and he probably thinks he was unlucky to be on the bench. No, there's been no bust-up with Gareth.

"I've had some good chats with Gareth and he's a good player. I've a lot of time for Gareth."

McAuley, Colin Healy, Pablo Counago, Damien Delaney and Ed Upson are all likely to be involved at some stage during Tuesday's trip to Peterborough in the Carling Cup, when the Blues boss says he is likely to make fewer changes than for the Shrewsbury game. Town will again be without Jaime Peters (ankle) and David Norris (knee).

Keane has reiterated that he is looking to add two or three players to his squad before the transfer window closes next Tuesday: "I'm hoping that it might be a busy few days ahead."

But the Blues boss says no moves are currently close to completion in either direction.

If Keano is good for his word then its hardly surprising that McAuley is unhappy at being told he's crap. Jim chased him and paid tooo much plus making him captain wasn't best for team with Norris Bruce and Miller (last season) better candidates. Selling tarnished goods isnt going to raise much but better he goes to make way for a proper centre-half that can lead the defence.

How do you know when RK is lying?..... when his lips are moving.

We could do with an experienced centre back to play with McAuley and a quality central midfielder to lead the team. Until then, Delaney should be playing alongside McAuley with Pim at left back.

Maybe Delaney would be better left central as he's not looked comfortable at left back. Pim is relying on too many hoofs plus his heading isnt great but at least he tries. Bruce has played best so far so why would he be dropped? Maybe Thatcher's return will help or switch jamie back (if fit) so at least with Wright now holding right side the defence will start to look settled.

Personally I think Keane just saw what we all had already said about Mcauley and left him out of the side on Saturday due to form-nothing else. Papers have picked up on it and ran with some story about Keane & Mcauley falling out to sell a few papers and fill a bit of column space.

What Keane needs to do is keep faith with Bruce & Pim at centre back for a few games with Bruce as el capatan, if he continues to chop and change the side like messers Magilton then its going to take even longer to gel the team.

Here is hoping for a left back, and two central midfielders to come in this week though!

Surely (Souper Jim) at almost 30 years old McAuley is an experienced centre back - he's just not up to the job.

Lazy journos................

They've all been told if they don't perform then they'll be dropped and that is what RK has done. Hopefully this will encourage them to pick up their game and start to do the business. Garvan didn't do himself any favours Saturday after complaining about not being in the team - he was given his chance and didn't step up. More work needed on the training pitch before he moans again!!

I'm sure RK has made some important phone calls to messers Fergerson Snr, Hughes, Bruce and hopefully Rednapp for some fringe players who need regular games at CCC level for the rest of the season.

Several posters have previously mentioned that McAuley doesn't need the extra pressure of the captains armband, let someone else have that role and let him put all his efforts into being a CB. If he still doesn't improve then he'll be heading somewhere else!

God there are some morons on here. Yea good idea suffolk_punch lets deflate moral even further by scrapping the wage structure and paying over the odds for another Campo so we can really pi$$ off the other players. Best idea I ahve heard in ages. As for being Captian R. Wright should be captian because he leads by example at least until some better comes in. Unlike Bruce who you know is going to lose his head at any moment do his wonderful two footed tackle and get sent off. That is if he doesn't go missing in the game which he is apt to do. As for all this bunk about Delaney, he is quality defender, but I think he should be moved to CB. Let Pim have LB he has the speed and the skill just needs to be given time in that position. My two pennith worth not that it matters for in the end RK will play who he thinks is best and what I or any of you think counts for naught. As it should be.

From what i've seen it's not that Delaney looks 'uncomfortable' at LB he just looks plain lazy and that alone should demote him to the bench. Whether McAuley stays or goes (my bet's the story is tabloid tosh) we still NEED a more experienced and decent CB.
