Burnley Linked With Garvan Move
Burnley Linked With Garvan Move
Friday, 28th Aug 2009 07:30

Town have received a £1 million bid from Premier League new boys Burnley for midfielder Owen Garvan, according to one of this morning’s tabloids.

Garvan is widely believed to be one of the players Roy Keane has told is unlikely to play for the club again.

The Irish U21 international is contracted to the Blues until June 2011.

Bye Garvan - hugely talented but majorly inconsistant and disappears for long periods during matches......good luck though but I believe he has had more than enough chances....

Big mistake!

Which of our players will try to pass the ball through our midfield?

Not really realised full potential I feel he could improve with right encouragement and coaching, if this story is to be believed take the money it would help boast the coffers for replacements. It was interestesting the comment that Roty Keane made about this player only a short while ago " he is five to ten per cent of being a very good player" one assumes he means lack of pace and the inability to tackle.

Garvan is ok but lets face it he isnt going to set the world on fire , Although i think we could get a littler bit more for him then that

Dissapointed to be honest, great passer of the ball has also seemed to be our only creative central midfielder this season. As long as we have a decent replacement signing asap will be happy, 1 mil not a bad price. We trust you rk!

If only we allowed him to play further up the pitch like he does for Ireland i'm sure he would be a consistant influence on a game that we all know he can!! Where are we going to buy a better passer of the ball for a million?? but maybe a good passing midfield is not what we are looking for now???

owen is undoubtably a talent ..
But when we played against west brom last weekend ,
he was very sluggish and lazy .
this i fear was his final coffin nail..
This kind of performance from him is all to common.
hence he is being shown the door.
But i bet he will come back to haunt us 1 day ala ambrose

I thought he was ok ,but must concede he did tend to be inconsistant, still think he should stay.He may up his game if he goes to Burnley. Then we will be regretting it . Young Rhodes is doing the business since leaving [in fact most are i think .......

I think that Garvan has looked creative in our very uncreative (of late) mid-field. But 'being creative' is not enough. He does go missing and he either can't or won't tackle - and we can't afford that. I think that he probably should move on for his own good, as he has not progressed with us.

Good luck to him, whatever happens.

Would be a shame to see him leave. HOWEVER, if he were to leave, I'd prefer to see him make a move UP - because he is a talented boy, and it really would be a shame to see his career ruined by Roy Keane.

Perhaps I'd hold out for £1.5m though.

Hmm...if true then maybe they'll pip Sheff Wed to his signing as a Prem team. Not sure it'll be £1m as the Sheff Wed bid was accepted at £750k.

Would be totally amazed by this. Can't see it happening. Sounds like agents talk to me, trying to stoke up interest. For any player to get away with the lack of pace which Garvan displays, you have to be able to offer something pretty special. Garb simply doesn't do this.

Paper Talk is rife especially as there are only 4 days beffore the window closes. If you saw the press conference where Keano lost it with the local paper hack you will know most of it is speculation.
Besides if Owen goes and we get the two lads from Sunderland we will be covered.
Keep the faith. We have been notoriously slow starters in the league for the last six seasons. By Xmas we will be top ten!!!

i would be happy to see him go if a replacement is signed, he is a good player but we cant afford to carry him in games and that seems to happen to often. a new challange may do him all the good for his own career

I personally think Garvan will do better in the premiership where the pace tends to be a bit slower than the championship.

As long as he's not lost his motivation, it wasn't that long ago he was on the verge of quitting the game!

Garvan has been in, and around, a massively under-achieving team for several years. Whilst we have not been successful yet this season it is clear that RK has us playing at a faster tempo which would fail if he hinged our midfield around Garvan. Talented boy he may be but he no longer fits. One paced and can't tackle he may be the last piece in someone else's puzzle.
