Town and Middlesbrough Still Chasing Murphy
Town and Middlesbrough Still Chasing Murphy
Friday, 4th Sep 2009 09:30

Town and Middlesbrough are continuing their interest in Sunderland striker Daryl Murphy, according to reports in the North-East. The Blues and Boro are already said to have made enquiries regarding Murphy’s availability ahead of the emergency loan window opening on Tuesday.

Roy Keane tried to sign Murphy on several occasions throughout the transfer window with a fee of around £1.5 million had been agreed between the clubs and the frontman or wide midfielder even undergoing a medical at Portman Road. Personal terms were always the sticking point, which was also the case when Hull moved in for the Irish international.

Late on deadline day it was reported that the Blues made a late bid to take Murphy on a season-long loan but neither that deal nor a proposed permanent switch to Wolverhampton Wanderers went through. The decision on where to go next week is reportedly being left up to the 26-year-old former Waterford United man.

On Wednesday, Town chief executive Simon Clegg confirmed that the Blues would be looking at the loan market: "We're delighted in terms of what we have done [in the transfer window], but we're also conscious of what might be out there, other opportunities which might occur at any stage of the process."

Football League clubs can sign players on loan from Tuesday for a maximum of 93 days.

Keane clearly wants a big lump to ping balls off of, which is something we certainly lack. I hope he gets his man.

He's obviously pretty desperate to get this fella. Where is he going to play him? If he's going to play him up top in a 442 then i assume that will be alongside Priskin... so where does that leave Pablo, Stead, Wickham and Walters...
If he's going to play him on the left, then in a 433 then I assume that will be (Edwards, Priskin, Murphy) or left of a 442 (Edwards, Norris, Leadbitter, Murphy) it would then seem odd that he bought Martin, especially as we still have Civelli to come back.

This guy has made it clear he doesn't want to play for us, so i don't want him.

By all accounts he seems a Greedy ****

Im happy with the strikers we have imo, we just need to give them the service which hopefully the likes of Edwards and Leadbitter will provide, and Rosenior to a lesser extent

Couldnt agree more cwb91

Why are we chasing a player who has twice snubbed us showing no interest in helping us to progress only with progressing his bank balance.

In Pablo, Wickham, Stead and Walters we have the strikers, that given the service, can score enough goals to get us flying up the league

Healy on the move - Daily Star
Coventry City are ready to end David Healy's Sunderland nightmare by handing him a move to the Ricoh Arena. Should Healy drop down to the Championship
Todays paper
Maybe better option if RK wants another forward. He will score goals for fun in the championship, with the new midfield in place from his old club i think he would fit in very well,if only to get us into the prem. 20-25 goals would make a massive difference, look at Wolves last season

We need to sign a fatty who can hold up the ball and flick it on easy peasy

Doesn't have a prolific goal scoring record does he?
We'd be better with 2 from Walters,Pablo, Priskin and Connor as strikers, assuming we'll play with 2 wide men from Martin/Edwards/Civelli/ok I'll say it GIO!!! and 2 from Leadbitter/Colback/Norris/Quinn in centre. Would still like Garvan in there as well..

Don't think we'll get him now (prove me wrong please)but I think Richard Wood would have been ideal signing and that would have been defence sorted. Suppose we can hope that Mr Clegg means no temp loan signings.

back to reality now - roll on Dec 31st!

healy has done nothing at sunderland and fulham exceept pick up his wages in the reserves. He has never done anything at club level.Strangely he has at International level. The guy is well rusty , when was the last time he started a game >?

As for Murphy their fans cant get shot of him fast enough. They say he has the heart of a flea which is concerning but has all the attributes like height , strength etc but uses them only a couple of times a season so they think he is very frustrating. Also they recon he cant head the ball and would be outjumped by a midget. OK thats over the top but stead would be outjumped by peters I recon. Basically Murphy is no big lump target man and never will be. The Macems think his best position is on the left supporting the strikers , exactly where martin plays and civelli ! Maybe Martin would be better as a lightweight central striker. Thats where he excellled for Man U reserves .

David Healy will not score bags of goals at this level. He has never been prolific at this level and at his age now, never will be.

If we're looking to sign a "fatty who can hold up the ball and flick it on easy peasy" (quote - copamundial) we may aswel go for the beast Jon Parkin.........Murphy clearly does not want to play for town, give up and stick with what we've got

This is getting boring - reminds me of the David Nugent affair last year. Forget him, as like Nugent, he's happier playing reserve team football than regular first team football in the Championship

Pablo turned down a move to Swansea as he wanted to play for us! This guy has said no on at least 2 occasions.
Pablo can go missing in games, if the ball is not being played to his feet and the midfield aren't making runs around and beyond him, but he plays football and can make some pretty average strikers look better (even Priskin looked better with a half fit Pablo alongside).
Stick with Pablo, Roy, your faith would be rewarded.

if we have to take a player from sunderland, better be healy or russell anderson rather than murphy, he's a prick

I agree with you OakingtonBlue, I think IAN HISLOP would do a great job up front for us!!!!

Murphy the new Nugent?

NW10_Tractor added 11:54 - Sep 4
If their heart isn't in we, lets just drop chasing wotless players who have no interest in giving 100% for town. The Nugents, the Murphy's - let them rust on the benches of their respective clubs - they aren't proper footballers anyway just cash hungry P**cks with no real future. Lets look at the lower league clubs - Jon Walters for example he came from Chester City and look at how he has performed for us. Dare I mention the S*um... Grant Holt and some McDonald dude from non-league Dartford.... Lets mug off speculation of these Premier-league bench warmers and look at some players who would love their chance in the higher divisions where they would love the opportunity to perform for great fans like ourselves...

i have to defend murphy about being a greedy so and so! because before he signed for sunderland he done a really good jesture to waterford utd his hometown club he was nearly out of contract and he knew that he was leaving but he signed a new contract so to insure that the club got a transfer fee for him and the 10% sell on clause! this to me dosent sound like a greedy player so i dont think people should be slagging him off without known the full facts there could be a whole lot more to the story that nobody knows nething about and a footballers carreer is a short one so im think he is entilted to do what is best for him and his family!!!
0

Blue_Fred added 12:34 - Sep 4
if this is really about him and his family i expect he would be able to sign for middlesbro without he need to relocate.
if its about money, i expect premiership Wolves will be his new club

either way i'm not bothered, we should not be begging any player to join the revolution

Agree with the general feelings on here - if he doesn't want to come here, (or Nugent or anyone else) we don't want him either - surely wanting to play for us is the very commitment that RK said he was looking for from every player in the first place? Can we get Sixto Peralta back while we're at it too?

Plums added 13:17 - Sep 4
As garvan7 says, 'personal terms' is probably more about where he lives and how much he needs to travel rather than cash.
We know Keane has told players they must live near the club and that might be unpalatable for Murphy - the same may be the case at Wolves.

Forget Murphy Keano & stick with Pablo/Priskin/Stead.
