Town and Blades Battling for Shittu
Town and Blades Battling for Shittu
Wednesday, 16th Sep 2009 08:52

Town and Sheffield United are locked in a battle to sign Bolton Wanderers central defender Danny Shittu, according to reports in Lancashire this morning. Both clubs are said to want to take Shittu on loan by the end of the week, while two other Championship sides are also believed to have shown interest in the 29-year-old.

The Blues were first linked with the Nigerian international earlier in the week with manager Roy Keane subsequently refusing to comment on the reports.

Elsewhere, this morning Colchester and Barnsley are also said to be interested in the former QPR and Watford man, who has previously been mentioned in connection with Newcastle United.

Keane appeared less than confident of signing his two loan targets after last night’s game when he said that no loan players would come in before Saturday’s game at Doncaster Rovers.

is he not going to just become another Diallo, Santos, McAuley..

played well against us a few years ago, will join the rot in our defence and just become utter tripe..

could be the final piece to the puzzle....

That is if we sign a out and out goalscorer first!!!!!!!!!

I'd start looking elswhere if I was you Mr Keane. Unfortunately, just as with Ched Evans there will only be one winner in this battle.

Bleed blue the final piece of the puzzle are you for real????? If we recalled Kevin Lisbie back from loan then he would be the final piece of the puzzle - a very crap, disorientated puzzle!

Theres optimism and then there bleedblue!

To be fair, we need a footballing defender, someone who's not scared to put his foot on the ball at the back and find a pass to midfielders or whoever, or even sometimes maybe travel with the ball like Titus used to!!

We can have lots of discussions about whether Keane is making progress and how much genuine harm JM did to this club - but one point surely cannot be argued with (excluding the obvious scummer windup merchants on this site).

Ipswich have not had a top Centre Half since Terry Butcher and have not had a half-decent one since Titus. McAuley is unreliable and his mistakes are his only consistent feature. As my son tells me, it is true that you can get away with an average defence in the Championship if you have top forwards (the BFJ philosophy) but we don't even have an average defence and certainly not top forwards. Our priority has to be a CH - we would have won last night with that and probably drawn with Boro.

Get the central defense sorted then worry about converting the many chances we are making.

rgone, I would say we havent had a top centre defender since Mogga.

Shittu may not be the best Centre Half in the world but neither were Linighan, Venus, De Vos. What they had was physical presence and were not barged about by big lumbering cenrte forwards like we were last night (although to be fair to Bruce he almost held his own). We need a brick shithouse (no pun intended) at the back.

I agree with Harry Palmer if Sheff U are really interested it will be them that gets him not us, but we need to find someone fast.

Im optimistic for the team i love and adore - sorry - thats called being a supporter!!

I don't believe that all we need is shittu to become Premiership Champions - jeeez! And read my full post, we need a 20+ goalscorer before anything can be completed!!

I am Pablo's biggest fan, liked Priskin at Watford but Walters doesn't look good enough up front and Stead is a bit of a try hard, and just isn't on par. We need a Kevin Phillips that will bag you goals from nothing!! Thats what we are missing!

One of the main things I noticed last night was that wes Morgan was winning EVERYTHING in the air, how ever many times Walters or stead went up for the ball they came off second best. Maybe we need a big lump at the back to win everything? Shittu does fit the bill!!!

I agree that we need a good CB and a out and out goalscorer.

Michael Mifsud is without a contract atm, attracting interest from Notts County, worth poaching??

Everton boss David Moyes is ready to let James Vaughan leave the club on loan.
Fox in the box we need. Misfud ex Coventry had one good season maybe worth a go,on a free did score couple of good goals one year v Utd. Shittu like Evans will join Sheff Utd and not us

well lets all hope that Mcauley never plays in a town shirt again, last season he took a long time to get up to speed but then improved. The thing is it shouldn't take a professional footballer half a season to get up to speed. With Mcauley we have been on a hiding to nothing ever since we signed him. Magilton paid too much money for him from a relegated club (1.5 million), talked him up big time and made him captain as a result, yet never really showed the leadership qualities a captain should and was rightly stripped of the captaincy.

1 thing that bemuses me is just recently he has been linked with teams like sheff utd and middlesborough, the question is why? what do they see in him and surely they cant be interested in him anymore after recent games.

I also find it funny that Jim magilton hasn't come sniffing round Mcauley or any other of his ex town players, could it be that he did make bad signings after all? he also went very vocal in the press as to how the QPR squad is better than the 1 he left at town, you Magilton were the 1 that built the squad you left us with, absoloute clot

I doubt we will get hime. Sheffield is nearer to his home in Bolton - by all accounts Sheffield are the only club willing to pick up his wages.
