Town and Newcastle Launch Robson Friendship Scarf
Town and Newcastle Launch Robson Friendship Scarf
Wednesday, 16th Sep 2009 15:31

Town and Newcastle United have released a friendship scarf in tribute to Sir Bobby Robson to raise funds for the legendary manager’s charity ahead of the sides meeting in the Championship at Portman Road on September 26th. The club will rename the North Stand the Sir Bobby Robson Stand at the game which his widow Lady Elsie is expected to attend.

The blue, black and white scarf, which is available from Planet Blue here, features both clubs’ badge with proceeds going to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. It goes on sale at both clubs’ shops today for £6.

Town’s director of communications Terry Baxter said: “We are delighted to be able to help support Sir Bobby's charity in this way.

“Along with Newcastle United we have developed the match-specific blue and white/black and white scarf.

“All profits from the sale of this unique item will go directly to the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation and I am sure that our supporters will wear the scarf with pride in his memory.”

On Monday, Robson’s memorial service at Durham Cathedral is being shown live on the Cornhill, while shops in town are being encouraged to dress their windows in blue and white in tribute.

I agree I'm desperatly hoping I can get to the match, no matter what goes on on the pitch it will be an amazing occasion, I'd like to think that the nature of this game and given the fact that both set of supporters have Sir Bobby in common the place could be packed to the rafters with no real segregation (ie loads of seats unused) taking us above the 30000 mark.

I won't be getting one

what have we got to do with newcastle?

nothing

why would you want to wear another teams colours?

we share with newcastle a love of a football and a love of a football genius who meant a lot to both clubs.

When two teams can overcome the base necessity to hate the opposition, and to celebrate the life of a genius - a pathetic 90 minute match that might get us out of the relegation zone pales into insignificance

Belstedbill you are a tool

RIP Sir Bobby

Robson loved two clubs Newcastle and Ipswich. For us and Newcastle to get together to do this shows how much impact he had on these two clubs. This is a great idea and anyone who deny's it is shaming Bobby's name. RIP ROBSON

I'll be getting one, it's a good cause. Does Belstead Bill sell clockwork toys for a living? Sounds like a wind up merchant to me (copyright Bob Mortimer 2009)

Get a season ticket - no worries about tickets then!!

Seriously, I understand that not everybody can be a season ticket holder. I don't know what the crack is re: tickets. I am betting it could be a near sell-out though, although the fact that the beeb is showing the game live means that ANYONE can watch it on TV for free .... no substitute for the real thing though.

RIP Sir Bobby - I hope that both clubs, teams, and sets of fans do you proud on Saturday 26th.

For the sake of Sir Bobby, let's draw the match with Newcastle, as reflected on the scarf. Otherwise quite a few may well be torn in half...
