Palace Handed Embargo for Cash Owed on Lee
Palace Handed Embargo for Cash Owed on Lee
Wednesday, 16th Sep 2009 19:45

Crystal Palace have been handed their second transfer embargo of the season after failing to pay an instalment due to Town as part of the fee for Alan Lee. The Irishman joined the Eagles for £650,000 a year ago.

Palace boss Neil Warnock says he expects to be able to make transfers again within a relatively short space of time: “We are aware of the embargo, we just have to get on with it.

“I'm hopeful it will be lifted in the next few weeks, so in the meantime we just have to crack on with things.”

Earlier in the summer, Warnock revealed that Town’s unwillingness to be flexible regarding the cash due for Lee led to the striker’s proposed move to Barnsley breaking down: "We couldn't sell him for the money which we still owed Ipswich, so we had to keep him.

"Barnsley made us an offer, but Ipswich wouldn't do us a favour on the finance front, so he stayed.”

bedsitfc.... I agree with you. Lee is a goalscorer, and I would love it if he pulled on the Ipswich shirt once more. Perhaps we could call it quits if Palace just let us have him for free!

Why would we want to do Palace any 'favours on the finance front' -
Its called a deal - a price and a period of time to pay is agreed.
Break the deal , return the goods !

Strange to see Warnock wanting Ipswich to do him a favour.

And a good job too. I don't know how Palace are pleading to be so hard up. Selhurst Park has pretty expensive match prices for the Championship and Simon Jordan is always flashing his wealth in public. Has he lost it all in the recession ? Shouldn't spend so much on daft haircuts.

fenboyblue its not the haircuts he has overspent on but the david dickinson range of fake tan

probably Tragic's best piece of business getting rid of that over weight useless cart horse and as for you people saying we should have him back, clearly scummers on our fans site. After turning out for Naaaaarwich and getting the abuse he did, which he probably deserved for saying what he did, he wouldn't ever be welcome back at town. he really was pants, I remember a couple of seasons ago he missed sitter after sitter and was actually dropped for the local derby. what summed it up was when the cardiff fans sang three cheers for alan when he missed an absoloute sitter, glad we got rid he was awful

Palace offered us a fee for Lee and we accepted. Now they expect us to do them a favour? WHY? Quite right they have been handed an embargo and well done Evans and the board. Why let Palace do what they want when they owe us cash!

The article suggests to me that Palace just wanted to change the structure of the payment plan, not avoid payment altogether. Curious to see that we weren't flexible, as we could have potentially negotiated more cash over a longer period of time? It would also increase the chances of other clubs doing us favours...

Oh No - I would love Lee back as said he scores goals. But what would the ipswich moaners say as he played for the club up the A140.

Well played Town. Warnock moans about everything may as well give him a "proper reason" to moan.

Lee back - no. He had one reasonable season with us and has gone downhill since.

Warnock moaning? Surely not.....

This adds insult to injury. Alan Lee did a job for us, but the fans (not all) were, as some always are, thinking the grass was greener. Had we been 2nd bottom and he wasn't scoring - then okay. He wanted to stay and this is a joke. Too right that Palace has had a transfer embargo implemented. Clubs and chairman should only deal honestly and with transparency. Yes, circumstances change, but whatever position Jordan is in - he must meet his and his Club's responsibilities. If he can't pay up what is owed on Lee then they can't be in a position to bring in anyone anyway? Strike a deal and bring in back for the season. Or loan him back and come to some arrangement. Whether he'd do a job for us from the bench, I'm sure he would, but Palace owe us and that's the bottom line. Poor show I'm afraid.

£650K for Alan Lee? I'd forgotten we got that much for him! Glad to see we're not doing any favours for that whingy, winey idiot of a man or his fool of a chairman. Stick to your guns Marcus!

All those calling for Ambrose back ... remember we had him on loan? He was pants! Admittedly he is playing well again, just seems not for us ....

not being funny but why do people keep going on about Lee scoring goals? he was S**t he couldn't even hit a ball cleanly to save his life !!! the amount of scuffed efforts and looped headers where we held our breath as it took 25 mins to hit the back of the net, one season he scored 17 goals coz he was the only fit senior striker, plus a lot of those were pens !!! he is crap.

plus by all accounts ambrose had a point to prove when he played against us with palace, when he was on loan with us last season I dont think he did enough to earn a contract and we were right to not take up that option
