Keane Targeting Two Loan Signings
Keane Targeting Two Loan Signings
Monday, 28th Sep 2009 10:57

Boss Roy Keane says Town have two loan targets they are hoping to bring to the club before Saturday’s game at Barnsley. Keane is understood to have been involved in a meeting at the club yesterday which presumably also included owner Marcus Evans, who attended Saturday’s game against Newcastle.

The Town manager says he is getting closer to adding to his squad and hinted that one of the additions is likely to be a centre-half, with Alex Bruce likely to be out of action for up to a fortnight with a groin injury: “Maybe this week. There’s been a little bit of progress over the last 24 hours. We’re trying. It’s a touch closer.

“I’ve got two targets in mind and we’re working very hard and there’s a bit to go yet on the negotiations.”

Keane admits that there have been one or two setbacks as he has sought to add to his options: “We’ve hit one or two brick walls, but I think there has been progress over the last 24 hours, however, there’s still a bit of work to be done over the next few days. Nothing will happen before tomorrow night but by the weekend I’m a bit more hopeful.

“I’ve been saying for the last couple of months, there are one or two areas of the club I think we need improving. It’s very good talking about the problems have in certain areas, in terms of defending, particularly set pieces, but we need to talk about the solution and get one or two players in.

“Trust me, it’s easier said than done. I could draw you up a list of players, but it’s trying to get the ones we think will help improve us.”

The Blues boss dismissed weekend newspaper claims that talks have been ongoing with Sol Campbell since last week, but again failed to rule out a move for the former England man: “No, not that I’m aware of. I mentioned him [on Friday] because I was asked a question about him. Am I interested? We’re interested in all good players.”

Keane says he is well aware that there will have to be an upturn in form sooner rather than later: “The bottom line is, if results don't improve there will be changes. I'll be losing my job if results don't improve.”

While Alex Bruce is definitely out of Tuesday’s game at Bramall Lane, Gareth McAuley trained yesterday and will be involved in a light session today and could be available, havin missed out at the weekend due to a calf injury. David Wright and youngster Troy Brown are also expected to travel to South Yorkshire.

Striker Connor Wickham will remain behind after suffering with a groin injury in recent weeks.

Must be hard to attract players to a team with a hothead manager who will publicly critisize you for a mistake and who are bottom of the championship ! Get Wright in at left back ,Roseinor at right back with McCauley and Smith in centre will be best defence we have put out all season .

Please not any more Keano, they keep getting worse. What sort of rejects are going to be knocking around this time of season? They will do nothing for the side, he has to try and build this "team" and get it organised as a unit before adding yet more people to it. If it is Sol Campbell and Danny Shittu, I don't know what we will do. One man can no longer run, the other is a donkey. Pretty desperate stuff.

FACT: Any defence with McAuley in it will conceed goals, McAuley is the most inconsistent defender we have!..... I'd rather see the ITFC bus driver get a game than put McAuley back in!

If Evans and Clegg believe in Keane they should pull out all the stops to get these signings in, and then Keane has no more excuses. If they don't then there will always be excuses.

At the game on Saturday my young son turned round and said "Don't worry Daddy its not all about winning !!!"

How do you answer that I replied I think that is what Roy is telling the players !!!

In my opinion cant all be blamed on the manager as all of these players once over that white line is down to them to at least show work rate and commitment, I accept beiong beaten if the players come of that pitch knackered but I do question how many show that at the minute !!! Any other job if you didn't perform you are sacked so sometimes the players need to stand up and be counted !

Yep, good point on McCauley. Look how well we've defended without him in the last two games.

You thought this team would be challenging for promotion! Let's hope you start making some right calls some time soon.

Completely agree with that back 4 Surco. Wright has to come back in, even if it is on his weaker foot.

The way D.Wright has been treated by rk is disgraceful. He was are best outfield player last year by some distance yet this season he cant get a look in. Keane is clearly fighting for his job and if we dont do well in these next two games i can see him being sacked.
I agree with Surco72. ITFC does not seem an attractive place to play your football at the moment.

When has this club ever been able to attract quality players???

There are some deluded people writing on here, it really beggers belief that people think we can attract major signings!

Lets sack Keane? So who will you get to replace him??? You all wanted a big name, you got him, so get on with it.

Bring back Jordan Rhodes, why does he not play Garvan - again what a load of tosh, these lads are not and will never be good enough! Players that have left this football club are gone, so why do you need to keep talking about them!

The fact is this, we played the strongest team by miles in the Championship at a time when we were not ready for them, full of quality and how can anyone have expected us to beat them? We had 3 players on Smith and Butt and they absolutely destroyed us.

We need defenders, and we need them quick, simple.

Lets stop dreaming that Counago is going to be the man to come on and score for us like Saturday! Everyone got excited thinking Pablo will come on and score 4, and what did he do nothing!

We have problems Defending - We have problems scoring

Bored of the same old talk on here, Magilton back, Garvan in, Why did we sell Rhodes, boring, boring, and more boring..............

I will continue to go and watch and support the club i love through thick and thin, shame the few thousand that fancied turning up Saturday didnt do that every time we are at home!

i have just seen Roy keane's interview on sky...
he kept saying he is "doing his best", to me "your best" means you cant do anymore to improve, if that is the case he may aswell leave now. we have another top side tomorrow and if im being honest i really cant even see us scoring a goal against such a strong defence. and that will be 10 games with out a win and puts us in real trouble, and almost without a chance of challanging for promotion at any stage of the season. i will support keane and the team what ever happens but this really is a worrying time for town.
we need 3 points tomorrow... so COME ON YOU BLUES!!!!

Let's hope its :
Koller
Wellbeck
S.Campbell
G. Dos Santos
K.Dyer

Problem is we do not have natural leaders on the field. I'm sure they are all scared of RK. We have never replaced wilnis, devos etc

We need players who have quality and not from sunderland!

Bus driver comment above made my day :)

some of you still see things through your Bruce coloured tinted glasses and are forgetting how good McCauley was at the later part of last season. His confidence is probably down because Keane has publicly slated him, he seems very tentative and afraid to make a mistake. Get the lad back in .. and i agree with Surco72 re the defensive line up.

The Truth ... Blackpool beat them by working their balls off as a team and not letting them play , alot of fans believe Garvan is a better player than Trotter or Colback myself included why is this boring .Keanes systems are clearly not working and we have no team spirit or fight ,the real thing that is boring are the results and hearing Keane say how badly we defended week in week out

Errm... The Truth... Nobody around where I was sitting was that deluded. Do you honestly think that if fans aren't ranting in rage that they must be boss-eyed and deleriously, optimistically stupid?

Keanes comments about trying to draw up a list!! As you have to find players to help improve us.....surely it is not that difficult to find a centre half and striker with more spirit, work rate and quality! We cant play Macualey who has been over the place all season but our backup is Balkenstein who should stick to playing Pontins League football!! The truth is, who wants to come to the bright lights of Ipswich!!! at the moment the lights are out and nobody is at home....Sheff Utd will show spirit and passion at Brammal Lane if we dont match that then we can say NIL points already!!

Didnt take long for people to get on Keano's back!!

Alot of new players have come in, alot have gone, Keane is trying to put together a squad that he thinks is good enough and will get us promotion/into the play/offs. This may take time...

One win, and the confidence will start to grow and Ipswich can push on from there.
Ipswich have a decent squad....need maybe one commanding centre half in to sort the defence out but apart from that they have some good players. Keano needs to be happy with his team and get a settled first 11.

As soon as Ipswich can a win under their belts, maybe a bit of luck is needed along the way then i cant see any problems!

Stop all your moaning and Get behind Kenao and the team!!!!

Needs to be central defenders. I dont mind Bruce and McAuley but we need better really. Their replacements are worse although given time I think Smith will be a solid defender. Balkenstein is at best, a conference player, he can header, thats it.
