Clegg: Keane Under No Additional Pressure
Clegg: Keane Under No Additional Pressure
Wednesday, 30th Sep 2009 15:30

Chief executive Simon Clegg says manager Roy Keane is under no additional pressure due to the Blues’ poor start to the season. The Blues currently sit bottom of the Championship and are yet to win a league game.

Clegg said: “There’s been absolutely no change in the situation. Roy and I continue to work very closely together. The three-way relationship between Marcus, Roy and myself is as strong today as it was in the close season. There’s been no change to that.

“But I’m not in any way trying to shy away from the fact that it’s been a hugely disappointing start. The fans deserve better, want better and I can assure you that it’s not through lack of effort on Roy’s part or the team’s part that we’re not delivering

“The manager is under no additional pressure, he’s a man who puts pressure on himself, he knows what he has to achieve.

“I continue to be confident that he will achieve that and that there will be a turning of tide over the next couple of games, and particularly if last night is anything to go by when I saw some really encouraging football.”

Sorry couldn't resist above, good to see the board getting behind the manager, even if he is the wrong guy IMO

On a positive point Mr Clegg Thank You to you and the club for a hugely impressive tribute to Sir Bobby Robson on Saturday, the club certainly have the corporate side going well, just hope the football can follow soon. I saw Lady Elsie and her son after the celebrations, they were very touched by the people of Ipswich

It would be the worst possible situation for Keano to go now. We are still in the unsettled period following his appointment (OK, this period is lasting longer than hoped), and for him to go now and another man come in .... would mean that the uncertainty and disruption would happen all over AGAIN. Twice in one season is too much, and would surely condemn us to relegation and chaos.

For me, Keano has to stay and put right the situation we are in, and I have no doubt that he will. He just needs the players to play for him, and he needs the backing of us, the supporters.

KEANO!!

He needs 15 games at least

Confidence is the key... get that back and all will be okay !!

Some cynical people on here, get behind the manager you bunch of jokers!!

Calling for his head, what kind of supporters are you, the guy deserves a chance, so take your dreams of Alan Curbishley and hold on to them somewhere else.

UP THE TOWN AND KEANO WILL TURN THIS ROUND!

Keane made a rod for his own back by stating he could win promotion in one season. Big mistake. Had the club announced that it had appointed Keane as part of a five-year plan to win promotion, it would have satisfied most fans. As it is Keane has put heaped unnecessary pressure on himself and on the team. This in turn has led to poor performances on the pitch, panic signings off it, and expectant fans are becoming inpatient. If I was Marcus Evans I would get Keane to sign a contract to keep him here for 5 years. This would relieve the pressure all round.

" I continue to be confident that he will achieve that and that there will be a turning of tide over the next couple of games."

Is Clegg saying that Keano's only got two more games to get a win? RK himself all but admitted the job may be too much for him in an interview before the Sheff U game and that 'maybe he just got lucky' when he took Sunderland up (many a true word said in jest and all that...

I'm afraid RK's appointment is symptomatic of having 2 guys in charge who know nothing about football: 'Ooh he's a big name footballer. Let's get him in and signal our intent...'

Well so were Bryan Robson, Allan Ball and Kevin Keegan to name 3 others - all great footballers - all poor managers. The really knowledgeable people running football clubs know the difference between a great footballer (arguably Keane) and a great football manager (certainly not Keane).

The same happened at Southampton - 'ooh let's get Clive Woodward in - he's a winner. Yes — but not a at football! He didn't know anything about football - and his appointment merely served to make Redknapp's job far more difficult...

One other thought: if this season is simply about consolidation, in preparation for promotion next season - what happens if we end up consolidating in the relegation zone - bit tricky getting promotion to the Prem when you're already in Div 1 isn't it?

In short, Isn't it about time we had a team that actually gelled straight away (look at Boothroyd at Colchester - none of that talk - just got them up and running almost straight away) instead of endless seasons of 'taking time to gel'. Some of us are not getting any younger...

Time to focus on positives, boys. If you have access to player i suggest you watch this interview...he's clearly talking about the town 'supporters' making it difficult for the players to focus and win games. I'm sick of all the suffolk lads (weak in the 'ed) who call themselves supporters who apparently thrive on doing the exact opposite of supporting anything. When you start typing about stuff you know nothing about, e.g. football management you make the idea of coming to twtd seem way less attractive...so please, start actually supporting the team, make town a fortress and give your energy to the players when the going gets tough otherwise your predictions may just become reality.

Good. Now let's get off the team and manager's backs and get on with pushing this club forwards - together!

I was there last night and we must keep fthe faith with keano. Soon as that win is under our belts i can see us shooting up the table.

Still Gutted about last night but on reflection today we played as well as we have this season, we are lacking confidence and that mentallity to hold out, we done it at donnie and last night, but i am confident that the win is around the corner

KEEP THE FAITH KEANOS BARMY ARMY

Also I thought are support last night was class, backing the lads all the way

He said he could win promotion in the first season, he didn't say he would.

I'm not a great Keane fan, but I just can't bear the thought of changing manager yet again; we need stability, even if it doesn't produce promotion. After all, is the Premier League the be all and end all?

I've been watching Town since the mid 70s, and I've seen some great teams. But when I look back, my fondest memories are from Burley's reign; good football, lots of goals, home-grown players and lots of near-misses. The Championship is a wonderful, fantastic league, and there's a part of me that would rather be a big fish in this league than caught up in all the commercial, Monday 8pm kick-off crap that the Premier League entails. Having said that, I'm not enjoying this season very much!

After the past few seasons, if Keane can make us challenge in the Championship once more, I'll take it.

He will turn it around and all the sniping can stop, and the boo boys must be silenced. The signs are we are getting there (disregard newcastle game) and when we do i think we are going to hammer someone (hopefully Plymouth)

WarkOn - I think you should change your name to JogOn!

Stop taking the press so literally, Keane came out and said those comments were tongue in cheek.

Calm down and have some faith, this is nothing like the Clive Woodward situation and Keane was appointed by Clegg and ME as he took a Championship club from the bottom of the league to the Premiership - we'll be fine and Keane will turn it around.

Last night the team started to look like it was gelling and it was an individual mistake from RW that cost us the three points. Even the Sheff Utd management said we out played them and they were pleased to get a point - not many teams will have that said about them when they play a Bramell Lane.

Get behind the team and players - if we all support the team and manager at the games and after the games, the confidence will come and we will climb the league quickly I'm sure.

You tell them Mr Clegg,

we have all got a lot to be excted about. I don't think I'm alone on feeling likethe good times are not far away. I would love to see another CB, but apart from that I am happier with our squad than I have been for a long time!!!

Coming back from saturdays nightmare and putting in a gutsy performance like last nite has got to say something about RK's motivational skills hasn't it ?? Credit to him credit to the players and the fans I can see us picking up a lot of points in october BRING ON THE TYKES BLUE ARRRMY!!!!!

fugs added 17:02 - Sep 30
Well, I think that after the inevitable draws/losses in the next couple of games, RK will be under some PRESSURE and so will the Board to DO SOMETHING. Sacking RK will be a big news story, won't it? A win is unlikely in the next couple of games. RK may be able to bring in a defender in a loan deal, but that will still leave the striker situation... and team management/motivation of what he has already got is not in his book.
