Keane Continuing Hunt for Loanees
Keane Continuing Hunt for Loanees
Friday, 2nd Oct 2009 10:18

Town boss Roy Keane continues to work on landing his two loan signings and now hopes to add his targets to his squad during the international break which follows Saturday’s game at Barnsley.

Keane said: “I’ve spoken to one or two managers in the last couple of days and in defence of the managers I’ve spoken to, they’re busy people themselves and it’s easier said than done.

“Nothing’s going to be done today, but we’ve got two weeks to play with after tomorrow ,with the international break, and we’re hoping for possibly two players. But there’s a long way to go with these deals yet because the clubs we are speaking to would be fairly reluctant. We’ll wait and see.

“I know there’s money available, I spoke to the owner again earlier on during the week. I’ve said we before, we could have £100 million to spend, but it’s trying to get the right players in.”

Keane says the delays in deals can be caused by a number of factors: “Sometimes it might be the demands of the player, the position the club are in, how busy the manager I’m speaking to is. There are lots of reasons.

“I have to be to quite understanding of the position we’re in and, trust me, there might be players not keen to come to a team near the bottom of the Championship.

“I understand that, but hopefully one or two players that we’ll speaking to will instead of seeing that as a downside, will see it as a big plus to come to a team that’s struggling and where they can come and play their part. It would help us, it would help them and we’ll all be winners."

Skipper Alex Bruce will again miss out due to the groin injury he suffered in last week’s game at home to Newcastle but should be OK after the international week.

Connor Wickham, who has also been suffering with a groin problem, will come back into Keane’s plans, along with Damien Delaney and Colin Healy, who were left out of the 18 at Sheffield United.

I give you october to save your job and this club from further humiliation Roy.
After 2moro you will have 2 weeks to seriously sort this team out & bring in a couple of experienced defenders like you should've done between may & august.

It also stuns me that quite a few on here think that getting rid of Keane will "disrupt the team".. he seems to be doing a damn good job of doing that himself on a weekly basis.

Could be a long two weeks!

Settled team for tomorrow may see a win though!!

I see that Mowbray was slating Stephen McManus after Celtic's game last night for a bad mistake.
Might be worth asking about him again. We need a decent centre half.

Grow up lightningboy. It took Bobby Robson a couple of years at least. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Well put RK, I'd rather no one came in than the wrong player - ie one that's not head and shoulders above the crop we currently have. We need to look long term as we all know. However the confidence and results dictate otherwise and 'Selling the Dream' as RK puts it is not that easy when we want a Premiership Defender to come to a club ROCK Bottom of the Championship without a win in 10!

RK I'm starting to trust . . .

If we play the same team that played at Sheff Utd we will win. Defence looked better (ok we let in three, but two of those were Wrights' fault and that is unusual). Trotter and Leadbitter looked controlled and confident. Priskin looked at his best all season and alongside Walters we looked a threat and had good presence up front.

I just hope he plays the same team.... if he does then we will be off the bottom and looking up at the pack above!!

Agree with MaySixth, Stephen McManus would be exactly the stamp of player to see Ipswich improve.

This seems to be taking a while but any player we loan now we can only loan for a maximum of 93 days ( i think) so makes no sense if we are not playing for 2 weeks because that may mean he will miss 2 or 3 games at the end .

Lightning boy , certainly not enlightened boy.....you give him until October do you to save his job, that is very generous of you..... fans like you will want the next manager out by Christmas if we are not top of the league, you have to be patient again... I know it has been jam tomorrow with a succession of club statements but finally we have a manager who is honest and I for one and warming to his frank and opne statements yet he is a winner of that there is no doubt.. He needs more time

Plenty of coverage of ITFC on Sky Sports News this morning!

I, for one, like the honesty shown by RK and truely believe he will turn our current problems round!

I have a feeling that things may come together tomorrow with a win. With the unpredictability of football is we'll probably keep a clean sheet too!!

Campowasgod makes a very good point, assuming we are looking at a loan to buy in January, waiting a few days makes perfect sense as by my reckoning 93 days from now is Saturday 2nd Jan?? The Transfer window opens on Monday 4th Jan

Maybe a coincedence??

Not convinced by all this optimism about winning tomorrow. Make no mistake Barnsley have turned the corner and they have a settled squad with good players in it. Not many teams will beat WBA as comfortably as they did. I for one will take a point tomorrow to prevent the 6 point gap. From thereon in its vital we win our home games. If we can do that we will be OK. Still keeping with Keane but very frustrated at not getting at least one centre back. Its the defence and goalkeeper that are now letting us down thats why I'm not as confident as others on here. Lets just hope.

JoshyUTD;

Priskin showed on Tuesday that he has good technical ability and he held the ball up well. He will prove to be class. I think he needed better/closer support from Walters.

marshall:

priskin has shown a lack off motavation and desire from the moment he put on a blue shirt...
walters has been giving his all for the club and should be praised.

priskin should be dropped to the bench , sold , and then put to a wall and shot

get in pablo fans favourite... and the only striker in the club that can hold the ball and bring others into play.

Bruce is God and Joshy;

Were you at the game on Tuesday?

Priskin played well and Im sure anyone PRESENT AT THE MATCH will agree.

Walters does give his all, but I think should play closer to Priskin.

An extra £4,000 would buy Beckford??... award goes to you for random comment of the year.

Beckford is only proven at League 1 level.

we'll be fine...won't we? Don't be surprised to see a keeper arrive. I recall Mark Grew being signing when the untouchable Paul Cooper was having a bad spell. His form soon recovered as will Wright's

Delaney and Colin Healy coming back into his plans? Oh no, please tell me that's not true. Talk about desperation. At least Wickham is coming back too so that's something I suppose.

I wait with baited breath...
