Keane Dismisses Yorke Claims
Keane Dismisses Yorke Claims
Friday, 2nd Oct 2009 21:47

Roy Keane has dismissed former Manchester United team-mate Dwight Yorke’s assessment of his management style made in his latest autobiography. Yorke, whose new book is currently being serialised in a national newspaper, played for Keane during his time as boss at Sunderland.

Keane says he hasn’t read the newspaper featuring the extracts but rejected Yorke’s claims that he led by inspiring fear: “I certainly wouldn’t agree that I try to rule with fear.

“Players are entitled to their opinions and obviously they’re selling books. I think that would be Yorkey’s second or third book now, so he must be stuck for a few bob.

“I take on board comments from people who I have respect for in the game and Yorkey’s not someone I’ve got respect for in the game. I had previously, but this was even at Sunderland.

“If he thought that, he was quick to sign a new contract and then didn’t try a leg in his last season at Sunderland and went back to Trinidad for reasons that had nothing to do with football. Maybe he’ll put that in his book.

“You’ll have to ask the players, I don’t think I rule with fear, I don’t think that works, it might the odd weekend if you want a reaction from players. But I’m pretty sure if I want to be a manager over a long period it won’t, be it at Ipswich or Sunderland. You’ll maybe have to ask more than one player.”

Keane says he left Sunderland because of outside interference after changes in the boardroom two years into his time as manager: “What I couldn’t tolerate in the end was being told what to do and where to live and how to treat my players.

“I thought the way I had worked at Sunderland had worked, but other people all of a sudden weren’t happy, yet previously it was ‘thumbs up Roy, you’re doing great’.”

The Blues boss says he hasn’t suffered the same issues during his first few months at Town: “So far, they’ve let me get on with the job. Obviously there have been conversations about stuff, as there would have been with my previous chief executive, but it’s the way people speak to you that’s important and I need to be treated with respect.”

Keane says he is enjoying life in Suffolk: “I’m happy here, the family are happy, but obviously I know in football you’ve got to get results to go with it. What happens to me is not important, it’s all about the club and the players and we’ll keep working hard and that’s all we can do."

Good to hear. Yorke's a clown, I wouldn't read much into what he has to say.

Keane wouldn't tolerate being told where to live, yet has told the Ipswich players where to live? What has happened to Ben Thatcher? :-)

I love that we have a manager who doesn't avoid questions or give half hearted generic answers, Keane stands up for what he believes in and I feel that this desire and determination will turn this club around.

We are no longer going to be everyones favourite club or 'nice Ipswich', and I think the fact that we have started badly is a blip in a hugely exciting future. We have gone backwards briefly yes, but I really do think we will take strides forward soon, and stride past the previous mediocerness and niceness of previous years.

Get behind the team - Keano!

........its the way people speak to you thats important!

RK: Ben will you please move closer to the training ground, then you'll be in my plans?

BT: Hey Roy, I'm not bothered about being in your plans, I'm happy to take my money and occasionally appear in the first team but get sent off so I don't wear myself out and then I can drive back to Surrey for a night out with my other journeyman ex-prem footballer mates!!

These are the players that are bringing our club down. Players that JM signed as favours and the ones that RK has to ship out to move us forward.

Get rid of the deadwood Roy, we'll be a hell of a force for next season.

In Keano we trust. COYB

Well, I for one certainly think that he 'rules by fear', hence the appaling performances and the impression that the players are trying too hard in an attempt to avoid Keane's wrath and violent streak and as a consequence make stupid mistakes which have landed Town in such a lamentable postition.

How anybody can equate or compare Yorke's personal life (ie, his disabled son) to his professional experiences with Keane is ridiculous.

Good on you Dwight Yorke - you speak without fear and are not afraid to dish the dirt on such an abhorrent man.

Keane - go now - I hate what you are doing to our club and the division you are causing amongst our loyal fans.

UEFA81 - so, how long have u spent in training at bent lane? or in the dressing room at PR? ur opinion is ur entilement but i struggle to see how ur qualified to come to ur conclusion. still, maybe oneday we will be top 4 in the prem and u and a whole other bunch of fans will be happy, cos from what iv witnessed its seems that is what it will take for alot of 'fans' to stop complaining and get behind the team.

UEFA81. You need to get out more mate. Don't you get bored of saying the same things, and then getting defensive when people tell you you're wrong? You are of odd opinions. Being a Liberal i'm all for the small causes and going against the swarm. But when your arguments depend on the defence of Dwight York, above RK, frankly, sir, you are an ejit.

Roy Keane is a decent honest man in my opinion, he is also a highly skilled footballer with leadership experience & quality, he is what I would describe as a football professional & I firmly believe that he will become a great Manager given time, I am extremely proud that he is associated with our club & sincerely hope that it is for the long term, the results will come soon, especially if we can do something about our vulnerable defence, those who are so quick to regularly try & find fault with him & put him down are simply foolish morons in my view, I respect their constructive points & criticisms, however I find their consistant efforts to bemoan Roy Keane as extremely irritating & wonder if they are truly ITFC supporters at all ?

I have had very little respect for Dwight Yorke for the last few years & have even less for him now, he is in my opinion a nobody compared with our Manager.

Hmmmm, I really do have my doubts about Keane - imho he's not the right man for our club BUT he's here now and we really do need to get behind the squad instead of the booing culture that is all too common these days at PR.

As for Dwight Yorke - there is always two sides to every story and most of the time we never find out the REAL story. Just take both sides with a pinch of salt and make your own mind up. Yes Yorke is selling a book so it has to be juicy but there may well be a bit of truth in it. I guess we won't find out until someone else who played under Keane brings a book out.

UEFA81 the only divide caused is comming from you son... ive read many of your posts and take on what you say.. you are entitled to your opinion but you sheer negativity and dismissal of keanes current town side i feel if continues will make you a target on this site in the near future.. if you are so appauled by keanes appointment and the team at present then why do you waste your time commenting on this site? Im glad to see the majority of fans are sticking by our team as they and i believe will be victories within the forthcomming months.. appart from the newcastle, borough and west brom games we have been unlucky, if it wasent for a dubious first goal and wrighties flapping we would have got a result last week... keane to the dispise of a few is here to stay so get used to it and support the f'ing TEAM, if you cant stomache that and your in constant persuit of glory p*ss off and follow man u..
