Colchester Confirm Garvan Loan Bid
Colchester Confirm Garvan Loan Bid

Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd has confirmed that Town midfielder Owen Garvan turned down a loan move to the U’s last month. The Irish midfielder is currently out of Blues manager Roy Keane’s plans.

Boothroyd said: “It's fair to say I did enquire about Owen and Ipswich were prepared to let him go out on loan.

“He elected to stay and fight for his place and that's fine. I've not got an issue with that.”

Prior to Town’s trip to Sheffield United last week, Keane said the 21-year-old will be given the chance to change his mind: “He’s out of my plans at this moment in time. He’s a talented boy and I’ve gone down the road with certain players, but like all the other players at the club Owen has the opportunity to impress me.

“The boy’s attitude has been fine, he’s been training hard and he’s played in the reserve games.

“He’s doing OK, but we gave him the option to go and get some games under his belt while he wasn’t in the first team and he declined that.

“But I’ve got no problem with that and he’ll no doubt play with the reserves on Wednesday and, if he does well, he might have a chance for the weekend. I’ve written off no player at the football club, we’re not in any position to be doing that.”

Boothroyd says he has no plans to continue his pursuit of Garvan.

Glad Garvan stayed should be at least on the bench to change the style of certain games by putting his foot on the ball and keeping hold of it ,something we have struggled to do all season. Not every game is won by hussle and business in the middle of the pitch and Leadbitter, Norris ,Colbaek and Peters are all very similar and does not seem to be a Plan B in games when things are not working. And as for Trotter ......?

I did see his last match at West Brom and if you are going by that we should have got rid of the whole team apart from Wrighty , i also saw him come on against Coventry and Palace and thought he was one of our best players

im afraid I agree with potty blue, for me Garvan has never lived up tho his potential, he is too slow and lightweight. the guy must be 6 ft 2 at least yet he hasn't got the physical presence we dearly need in our midfield, which is 1 thing that trotter has going for him. my biggest gripe with garvan tho is his pace, or lack of it, he has to be 1 of the slowest players in our squad and even last season too and thats including ivan campo who was 33 !!! because he is so slow he gets shoved off the ball to easily and then isn't quick enough to win it back, then he lunges in and gives away free kicks in dangerous positions and picks up bookings in the process. I also think its an absoloute joke he was linked with teams such as liverpool and everton, sorry to say it but in my opinion not up to it at town.

yes he has a good range of passing but against teams like west brom who closed down our players quickly every time they recieved the ball he was found wanting, because of his lack of pace he needs plenty of time on the ball to be able to pick out passes and any decent championship team will close you down soon as you recieve the ball, something we haven't been doing that great this season

It's an obvious power struggle. They've got a feud going. Roy's basically saying 'you won't play for me again' & Garvan is saying 'you won't be here that long so let's hang around for the new guy'. Garvan won't play for Town whilst Roy manages the club. That's fair play because RK is the boss & will stay or go based on the results of his team. Get the feeling Garvan is a chippy, pain in the ass who needs to be told, good player though he is.

Jimmy 86 ... i agree with you that Garvan is a little lightweight but more so than Martin ? And maybe his defendng is questionable but without Garvan playing we have conceded 23 goals in 8 and half matches many times playing three in centre midfield so are any of midfielders any better ?
All i am saying is that Roys teams have not worked so far ,so why are Garvan and Wright(defender in our only clean sheet) not being given a look in ?

Glad he didn't go, he has some very good qualities but obviously is not 'Keanes' type of player. Hopefully he will prove himself and come good, he's the type of player who I think would be more at home in the Prem, however I do agree about his lack of speed, perhaps he's trying to emulate Jim Magilton????

yea and dear old Jim didn't reach the dizzy heights of the game really now did he? if he is gonna play then he needs to be given time on the ball, otherwise he isn't quick enough to do anything with it, im bemused as to why David wright has vanished from the first team, is a dependable and consistant defender in this division

I think Garvan is a decent player - BUT has flattered to deceive over the past season and a bit. Shame.
