Derby Confirm Stead Interest
Derby Confirm Stead Interest

Derby County boss Nigel Clough has confirmed he has enquired about taking Jon Stead on loan with a view to a permanent transfer. Yesterday, Town boss Roy Keane said he knew nothing of a move for Stead but was aware that chief executive Simon Clegg had received one or two enquiries.

Clough said: “He is one we have asked about but I don’t think there is any movement in that direction at the moment.

“We have a few targets for January we would like to bring in and if there is any way we can do that now, initially on loan, then it would give them two months to settle in and we would like to do that.”

Stead was previously on loan at Pride Park in 2006/07 when a Sunderland player, scoring three goals in 15 starts and two sub appearances.

Meanwhile, Roy Keane held “crunch talks” with defender Gareth McAuley and has told him to remain with the Blues to help turn the season around, according to one of this morning’s tabloids.

Earlier in the season, the two were reported to have fallen out with the Northern Irishman losing the captaincy and revealing that he had been told he could find a new club, although Keane denied that any row had taken place. According to today’s report, the 29-year-old will not now be allowed to leave Portman Road.

Elsewhere, Suffolk Coastal District Council have confirmed that they have received a complaint form Roy Keane’s Aldeburgh neighbours regarding the noise made by his dogs Triggs and Izac.

A spokesman said: “Suffolk Coastal received a complaint on October 7th about barking dogs and has sent the complainant a letter and a noise complaint record form for them to fill in.

“If and when we receive a completed version of the form, which would list details of the type of noise, its duration and how often it happens, we will then assess what, if any, further action we need to take.”

If we we're blessed with strikers scoring, or could sign a "quality" striker as a replacement I'd say let him go, unfortunately neither of these things are happening, so we need to keep Stead at the moment to at least give us another option.

If we let last seasons top scorer (a goal every 2 games) go,which i believe was good service for £600,000 it could be another big mistake which could come back and haunt Mr Keane .

We did the same thing with Alan Lee, and rejoiced... well some of us... to be honest hes not been given a run in the side this year, Jon Stead is a better striker than Jon Walters is, Walters should be in the midfield not up front.

Thank God we did NOT sell Pablo, otherwise we would be looking even worse right now!

Not a single reference to the dogs! Well there is now. Steady is a good player for us given the service, which applies to all frontmen.

This one is difficult to call because I have no idea what the pecking order in our strikers is.

The thing that lets Stead down is his first touch and his inability to find a team mate. He can shoot and he can get into the right positions but unfortunately he has not been given an extended run. I like the bloke and feel he has had a raw deal as have many others. He can score goals as he has proved but how can he prove it if he does not play. I will be sad to see him go but then nothing is forever.

I ilke Steady but everyone knows that he is woeful in the air , especially for such a tall lad.Part of the problem is is that no one supports the strikers when they they have the ball and this has been going on pre- keane.

Are we bothered about Keanes dogs barking and annoying people in rich git second home , media luvvie land. Seize 'em Triggs !

I think we shouldnt sell him yet though, only intill we get moe options for other players, theres much better player in the league which we can buy with no financial problems miles better than stead.
