Walters a Doubt for Plymouth Trip
Walters a Doubt for Plymouth Trip
Thursday, 22nd Oct 2009 11:09

Striker Jon Walters is rated as a doubt ahead of Saturday’s game at Plymouth after spraining an ankle in the closing stages of Tuesday’s draw with Watford.

Boss Roy Keane told the club site: "Jon is a worry for us and we will see how he is leading up to the weekend.

"He doesn't go off the pitch for nothing and it's a concern. We are going into another battle at Plymouth and we're going to need all our leaders and characters, and Jon is one of them.”

Town will also be without Connor Wickham at Plymouth as the 16-year-old frontman has joined up with the England U17 squad.

His enthusiasm and workrate would be a big miss, but Edwards can fill that RW role, and we would just have to have one of Priskin or Stead partnering Pabs up front instead as Wickham is away with England. So a shame if Walters does miss out, but not critical. It may also give Priskin a chance to stake a claim (if Keano goes with him) as he seems to have faded out a bit at the mo.

The big question I guess is ..... who will be skipper? I guess Bruce if he plays, but I am not sure we should break up the McAuley/Smith partnership. In which case I think Leadbitter should get the armband.

Anyone else?

I'd go with Leadbitter for captain too if Jon is out and bring in Munch (Stead) to partner Pablo.

Tommy Smith is getting much better with a partnership and the experince of playing regularly. It was such a shame that we conceeded so late on Tuesday. He was absolutely distraught. Some will say that was because it was his mistake but I'll take it as his desire to succeed.

Since hes been playing up front, he will be replaced by one of the strikers, which I hope is Stead. The midfield is stronger now, and with Pablo back on form he should get better service and build his confidence back and net a few this weekend. Hes had a bad season, but hes good enough to recover. Trotter for Garvan in mid-field and then we have a side again. I am going 3-1 to Ipswich.

Good chance to give Jordan Rh....oh yeah.

Priskin or Stead should be champing at the bit for this chance, so i hope that whoever comes in takes the opportunity. Either would good. Stead probably deserves it, Priskin needs the chance.

Agreed that Trotter should drop out for Garvan. Garvan played a pearler at Plymouth last season. One of his best games.

I would rather have Quinn than Garvan... Quinn has played very well all season.
This is good news for Priskin or Stead and I'm in some way glad because I had high hopes (like most people) for Priskin... I want with a run of games for him to prove to me why I did!

Interesting to see who he picks alongside Pablo. Priskin was 'quiet' and Stead netted, although he took Priskin off. Think this will be the only change.

Agreed on Leadbitter for skipper. Best midfielder we've had at the club in a long, long time.

Ive got this down as 3-1 to the Blues and I have a wedge on us to win at odds of 2/1. Sucker bookies, this will pay for the trip...and some

We need to see a bit of where the £1.7 million went - Snake must start. Garvan's a must if we want to keep the ball better but Quinn and Colback (and possibly Healy) are all better options than Trotter. Looks like Keane's made his mind up though and genuinely thinks Trotter is the man - astonishing!

Agree - get Tamas in and filling his boots after a spell out of the side. Fingers crossed it seems to have done the trick with other players left out (e.g. Big Daddy MaC now playing better)

Agree with the shouts for Trotter to be changed, Quinn or Garvan must do a better job! Also agree Leadbitter for the captaincy, think he's been the best addition to the team this season and think he'd rise to being captain.

COYB - Lets av the Greeeeeeeeen Arrrrrrrrrrrmy

Good luck for Saturday lads drom an outsider. I am sure your wait for a win will be over. The real test will be building on that first victory and I hope you can do just that.

Stead to start alongside Counago , only other change Garvan in for Trotter,i'd like to see Martin start again and get some more confidence and a run at left midfield . I dont understand the Trotter and physical size rubbish look at the Spanish midfield if you keep the ball well it doesnt matter how big you are. I would give the captaincy back to Mac as he is playing well now,to have 4 different captains after 14 games would not be great and smart of indecision ?

Same Team except Priskin for Walters (if injured) - Leadbitter Captain - Def stick with Smith and Trotter, neither have let the side down and both young and inproving quickly. I've a feeling that we will see both playing in Premier league in a year or two. Hopefully with us.

What's with all the constant Trotter bashing, he may not (as yet) be a world beater but he is doing a reasonable job...... I remember when we used to encourage are youngsters!

Our current problem (at least over the last few matches) stems from not taking our chances - I think it's time to unleash Priskin to put that right; clearly a classy finisher, but being in and out of the side never does a striker any favours - could do with a run of games to bed into the side.

As for all the "Trotter-Droppers", if you're suggesting that we should play away from home (in a game that is currently a relegation 6-pointer) with Garvan as our holding midfielder, you must be crackers...

If Trotter is doing so well why has he only managed to get 2 ratings just over 5 in 11 games from our votes of people watching the games and the rest 3 or 4 out of ten ? I do encourage youngsters when they are good enough Garvan is hardly an old man !!

That first win is coming (hopefully Saturday)
Really felt for the lads on Tuesday. I thought that was probably the best they've played all season and to be robbed of the win right at the death was heartbreaking. I did worry, most of the game, that we needed the second goal and they did everything but get it.
Still find it troubling that, at the final whistle, a few morons chose to boo! The lads gave an excellent performance, were really unlucky to be denied the win and some 'fans' decided to boo. Luckily, those of us who didn't rush out the exits, managed to applaued their efforts. (Did you see Rosenior throw his shirt into the Sir Bobby Robson Stand? Fine gesture) I suppose I shouldn't get too bogged down with the booing pillocks, there's unintelligent, fickle fans at every ground. They'll soon change their tune when Sir Roy of Keane leads us to the promised land (next season - probably!)

Dietmar - My intentions are not to slate Trotter - just my personal opinion is that he is one of our weaker players in the current starting 11 (admittedly he's probably just plugging Norris's gap until he's back). Given the changes from game to game in other positions I find it slightly strange that Trotter seems to start & play 90 mins every game.

Appreciate he his young and learning his trade but do you consider him to be one of our better performers in recent games? I have mentioned on previous posts I just find him to always seem slightly sluggish, slow and off the pace and cannot beleive its a fitness thing given how many games he's started. Just think we have greater strength on the bench/out of the squad that would give us something more.

But will still back whoever starts - Keano knows better than me....

That suggestion of Jordan Rh... was very mischievous, anyway Walters should be replaced by someone with an eye for goal who also goes wide to stretch defences, someone like Billy Cl.....oh, yeah

This could prove fortunate for us in the long run as although I love Walters for his commitment he is not a natural goalscorer and with Priskin or Stead (hardly prolific I know) it gives us a fresh option. I'm not bashing Trotter but agree with the majority he is not good enough and nor is Peters. I was not a Jim man but even he realised that neither were good enough for a full strength ITFC team. Good squad players but not first choices. For a tough assignment like Plymouth I'd have Quinn in for Peters and what about Bruce in midfield for Trotter at least Bruce can run and can head a ball unlike Trotter. Sorry I'm bashing now but in my opinion he is just not good enough and I don't think he ever will be - hope I'm wrong. Not as confident as some on here about a win don't forget this is crucial for Plymouth as well we just must not lose.

Leadbitter should be club captain, even if all the others are available. He is a natural leader, and the best midfielder we have seen at PR for many a season.

I agree Trotter is deinitely not the finished article, and feel that when we are at home a passer of the ball would be more suited to the middle, along with Leadbitter, perhaps Quinn.
However, for a game like Saturdays, which i believe we will win,a game that will be a real scrap,a player like Trotter has got to be preferred,to a lightweight like Garvan.
This is not meant to knock Garven, i used to believe he was the future of this club,he did remind me of Steven Gerrard, DID, being the operative word.He just doesnt sem to have kicked on in any way (IMO)
As for who should play up front, even if Walters is fit, I still think a provrn scorer has got to be preferred...Stead.
I also like Priskin, but he has not set the world on fire...as yet. The other problem being, you can only fit 11 palyers into a team!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope the peanut who was sitting behind me now realises that walters wasnt feigning injury on Tuesday.' Look at him , theres nothing wrong with him. He is putting it on. Keane get out of our club'. Dont you just wish you had one of those guns they have on Star Trek that make people dissappear.Had never seen him at a game before and hopefully wont in the futre. Leadbitter for captain.

The worst thing i ever heard was several years ago when a complete moron in the North Stand shouted to Bryan Gunn "Where's your daughter gone"
These people are not fit to grace the stands of PR, and should universally be turned on and eliminated...

I think Brogansnose singling out Frank's nasal organ for his moniker is slightly conkist as well
