Keane Happy With Point
Keane Happy With Point
Sunday, 25th Oct 2009 00:13

Boss Roy Keane was happy to take a point away from Town’s visit to Plymouth having gone behind in the first half. Argyle manager Paul Sturrock says he will consider appealing against Darcy Blake’s red card.

Keane said: “I could have a go at my players for not hitting the target more but Plymouth defended unbelievably well. It's important to recognise that.

“You only have to look at Quinn's chance and the defender running back and clearing off the line.

"I guess when you go one down away from home, particularly with the ball taking ages to come back in when it goes out of play, we have got to be contented with a draw. The encouraging thing for me as a manager is that we are creating chances."

Keane was pleased with the way Jon Stead took his chance when it came: "Steady took his goal well and deserves full credit for getting in that position. He gambled on the backpass, but still had a lot to do and it was a cool finish.

"He has not been involved recently but he scored twice for the reserves in midweek, so he's had a good week.

"It's very frustrating but we'll keep going. We'll take the point and move on."

Elsewhere, a tabloid newspaper claims Keane is looking to add a more experienced coach to his staff to help end the Blues’ winless run. Earlier in the season, when ex-Manchester United coach Brian Kidd was linked with a coaching role the Blues, Keane said he wasn’t planning on any backroom changes.

Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock says he will consider whether to appeal against Darcy Blake’s red card for a two-footed lunge on Alan Quinn: "We will have a look at the video and see if Darcy deserved a straight red card. If not we will lodge an appeal but first we will look at the tape.

"Overall I don't know at this stage whether it was a point gained or two dropped. What I do know is that we played with confidence in the first half and when we were a goal up but once we conceded that confidence seemed to be sucked out of us."

I sent Ipswich an email regarding a SHANE SMELTZ who plays for the Gold Coast in the Aussie prem. He is an outstanding finisher and he shoots from distance also.
He is a kiwi international.

I'm not sure Plymouth defended that well, we were pretty toothless up front.
It's going to be a long old season and a relegation battle looks very much on the cards if we cannot beat teams like this.
Definately two points dropped for us, let alone Plymouth as Mr Sturrock said.
The Argyle fans were gutted we couldn't win as they've been calling for Sturrock's head for weeks now. A certain Mr Mariner is waiting in the wings.

The bottom line is that is 14 games without a win,how many teams would stick by there manager with that kind of record?.
Derby on Saturday has to be the last chance saloon for Roy Keane.

Dearest KingKeano - "he is clearly not taking the ipswich job very seriously, i am losing patience" - Is that meant to be a joke? I would hope so else you are talking out of your rear end fella! I'm more than happy with a point, things are still improving big time so keep on believing in RK and the boys....Let's make the game against Derby a DERBY DAY ATMOSPHERE. We can do it....Let's continue to be that twelve man that the boys need right now.

I do love some of these so called fans, I'd like to see there reaction if we go on a winning streak from now to the end of the season, then I'd like to see who isn't interested in Keane anymore.

Come on you blues.

Well said Binnsy. October was supposed to be a run of winnable games. If we can't put together a run of wins in that set of fixtures then you have got to be highly worried and if Derby isn't a good solid 2 or 3 nil win then i don't see why we should continue to give our faith to Keane. We are the only team in the land without a single win!!! do people forget that?? - why is that if we rail against that very poor record that we get accused of being a non loyal supporter (YousBeTrollin for example). Where is the evidence that we are likely to go on a winning streak? There isn't any. Its just blind faith again. No other clubs supporters would put up with that.

It was also a kick in the spuds grinding out our third draw, when QPR have knocked in four each in their last three games.

to the negative posters above. I really hope ME or cleegy come out and extend RK's contract to FIVE years - That would really give you something to moan about but I for one would be over the moon if that happened. Hopefully it would shut you pessimists up and maybe, just maybe you'd bugger off and support Man U or something. That way the REAL supporters, who have patience, can continue to give 100% and have sensible conversations on here without having to read your moaning and groaning every bloody day. I think I'm gonna take note of all the names on here who post negative comments. And then when the boys turn it round I'm gonna post a list of you all so that everyone is aware of you the pillocks were!

Although disappointed yesterday with just a point - many of Roy's comments are valid. We gained another point - yes we should have won the game, but we have actually only lost 2 of our last 7 matches.

We need to get behind the lads and the boss. How is it Roy'ss fault that Plymouth defended well and made an excellent clearance off the line?

bluelass7 - I agree with you. The club are having a troubled time and what we need is support.

it seems that only three games ago we were saying "6 or 7 points from the next three [relatively easy] games will see us on our way....." etc etc. We've got three from two home games and an away game against a team who are bottom of the league (we're not technically bottom because we are better than that/unlucky/building a side etc etc).

My concern is that when we win (and we will; the odds against going a whole season without a win are considerable) we'll all suggest that 'we're on our way' and all the doubters were wrong. No they're not - there's just something not right at the moment; Keanes relationship with the players; his relationship with the media; the players commitment to Keane and to the club; the team spirit (or lack of it) - new players brought in on better terms than the others; the fear of being droppoed after a bad game - can't point to one single factor but there is a situation and atmosphere at the club that is just not right.

And before you all tell me to [blindly] 'get behind the lads' (yawn) or go and support Norwich (they haven't got 10,000 spaces at their stadium like we have) let me tell you this; my daughter goes to a gymnastics club; she is of frankly average ability and for as long as I have got one hole in my harris she is not going to achieve an awful lot; simple mechanics and biology; but I love her, support and encourage her and want her to do the best that she can - as long as she does I'll continue to drive her all around the parish on a sunday morning.

It's the same for me with ITFC - happy to offer the my support and encouragement - but are we really doing the best that we can??

Did we have a forward line yesterday because I don't recall seeing one? It's as if we were playing 4-4-0. Walters was crap. No doubt some people will say he led the line well but this is simply another way of saying he didn't manage to score. If we hadn't been gifted that goal, we would have lost bec

...because we had created nothing up to that point. After 12 hours on National rail, I feel extremely depressed about going to watch football. Anyone who says otherewise, clearly wasn't there. Rant over, COYB, in Keane we trust.

The fans we could do without are the ones who cant accept that it isn't working. Roy Keane isn't working and to be happy with a point against one of the worst teams in the league is unacceptable. I'll be supporting Ipswich and that's the club and the players. Roy Keane isn't Ipswich any more. COYB, Keane we don't trust

bluelass - spot on. I thought of doing that from the forum a few weeks ago. Newcastle aside we have been half decent for weeks now. I still dont count barnsley as a defeat !! Once the luck turns we will be fine.

Yeah nice one bluelass, extend his contract to five years. Thats what all the great clubs do when you have gone over a quarter of the season with NO WIN! Thats really sensible debate. Well done.

I don't like the fact that any dissent towards Keano results in abuse from so called 'real' supporters. I think that October should have been the opportunity for Roy to pull things round, and he is currently falling way short.

WE HAVE THE WORST RECORD IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY!!!!!

Do people not recognise that???? If we can't have a go at the Keano in a constructive and balanced manner when we are in this position then when can we?? If being a 'real' supporter means blindly accepting rock bottom of the league and watching us spiral down towards League One then i'll quite happily not be a real supporter as its nothing but harmful to the club. We need open and honest constructive debate, not daydreaming.

Sensible. You don't know the meaning.

becclesblue500 - the atmosphere the club aint right?? if u went to the watford game u wouldnt be saying that, the togetherness was more than evident. were bottom of the table but hard to beat, that tells me all I need to know to convince me its not a crisis, and how close we are to turning it around, and we will.

Another poor result but I can't comment on the performance as I didn't go to the game.

Very dissapointed with our points haul for the month, looks like it'll be another big game on Saturday. However, this is Ipswich Town, we've punched well above our weight throughout our glorious history for a reason: we do things differently here and know how to support our team. I will continue to back the manager and the players until hell freezes over and anyone who wants a chop and change quick fix club infested with whinging fans should sod off and support spurs.
