McAuley Out for a Fortnight
McAuley Out for a Fortnight
Sunday, 25th Oct 2009 17:24

Roy Keane says central defender Gareth McAuley could be out of action for two weeks after picking up a thigh injury in the first half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Plymouth. The Northern Irishman was replaced by Alex Bruce for the last 65 minutes of the game.

Keane said: "We've picked up another injury. It's hard to say how long with a thigh injury and Gareth will have a scan in the next day or two. He could be out for a fortnight, but Alex came back in and did well."

While Bruce is McAuley's likely replacement, a central defender is understood to be one of the two loan players Roy Keane has targeted in recent weeks but has so far failed to land. On Friday, the Town boss said he was hoping for progress this week.

Meanwhile, former England manager Peter Taylor's presence at the recent Swansea and Watford games may suggest that he could be the experienced coach Keane is reported to want to add to his backroom staff.

Taylor, who left his job as manager at Wycombe Wanderers by mutual consent earlier this month, watched both games from the directors' box. Keane denied reports earlier in the season which claimed that he would be looking to add to his backroom staff.

If RK has considered getting some advice from someone like PT then good on him. Just shows he wants what is best and that, like most managers, they don't have all the answers. Yet another positive for this seasons that is slowly getting better and better. Of course the pessimists will be on this one soon saying he is coming to replace RK - So before you start posting crap like that, the pro RK/ITFC SUPPORTERS have beaten you to it! Ha

quite right, our lass. No shame in getting some advice and Taylor ought to have something in his duffell bag by now. Would be good to see more of this sort of thing, God knows the man has a difficult job.

Even though we obviously need to get a few wins under our belts, I have to say I really believe we are turning the corner & feel positive about getting out of the bottom 3 soon, However we soooooo desperately need someone NEW to but the bloody ball in the back of the net! COYBs!

When you look at the table we are only a couple of wins away from making great strides up the table.
In Keano we trust.

shame about mcauley just as well he will only miss the one game cause he is not as bad as alot of people make out, aslong as we defend as a unit we will be fine, as for taylor being linked as new coach at club this will be good a move with his experience to help guide RK and with his good man managment skills will hopefully help get the best outta the players but of course its just rumours at the moment, fingers crossed it will happen

Pity the injury has come just as he was looking to regain his old form, Peter Taylor would be a good addition at the club, he has bags of experience, and is respected, think he could work with the lads, was a good manager at Southend, and with England u 21s. Fingers crossed .

Peter Taylor... In a Gorman type role? Could do a lot worse, and it may help us bring folks in on loan as PT is a very well respected coach.

Peter Taylor would be a superb appointment - no disrespect to the current backroom staff, but he's a vastly experienced coach who IMHO, working alongside RK, could be just what we need.

He did a fantastic job developing players with the England U-21s - with so many young players currently at the club (can't be more than 10 that are over 25 at the moment!) would be great to see a few realise their potential, rather than end up with another crop of Bowditch's, Haynes's and Clarke's...

Peter Taylor is a calm person, and is more likely to encourage the younger members of the team, than Roy Keane ,who has a reputation for being ''abrasive'' .IF he is appointed i think he would have an impact on the players, and things could get going, deffinately a positive step ,Lets hope it happens .

Blueboots what do you mean by another crop of Haynes (playing regularly and scoring for a top six side and in most teams of the week this week in the papers ?) or Clarke (playing regularly in a playoff pushing side)? ,Rhodes (scoring regularly for a team looking for promotion to our league ) ?
Bowditch is injured and i agree may have found his level but the others are doing well and will only get better with age and experience ,as they were doing well for us before the money came in and we started signing players .

Surco: first, get your facts straight - I never mentioned Rhodes...

Joe Royle once said of our younger players (and I'm guessing he was referring to at least one of those on my list) that "they think they're stars, and they're not even players". None of the players I mentioned kicked on while at Town - can you honestly say they were much better players when they left us, than when they first broke into the first XI? I don't know whether that was down to their own attitude / work ethic, or poor coaching / handling by the club, but I'd hate to see that happen to the likes of Wickham.

I'd welcome any coach at the club with as much experience of working with younger players as Peter Taylor, to show our current crop that reaching the first team is just the first step before the real hard work begins...
