Trio Help Northern Ireland Through to Next Phase
Trio Help Northern Ireland Through to Next Phase
Tuesday, 27th Oct 2009 14:44

Academy trio Josh Carson (pictured), Rory McKeown and Cormac Burke helped Northern Ireland’s U17s into the elite phase of UEFA U17 Championships qualifying despite losing 1-0 to Holland in their final game in Andorra earlier today.

Midfielders Carson and Burke started the game with full-back McKeown coming off the bench just before half-time. All three were winning their fifth U17 caps.

Two 2-0 victories over Malta and Andorra, in which Carson netted three goals, saw the Northern Irish youngsters to second place in the group behind the Dutch and through to March’s elite qualifying group phase.

Town striker Connor Wickham and England's U17s are in action against hosts Azerbaijan in their second qualifying group game on Wednesday, having defeated Kazakhstan 6-2 in their opening match.

Can i just say,
Please do not sack keane!!!
We will beat Derby 3 - 1 on saturday and we will start to climb up the table. When Civelli comes back we can get rid of Martin who has been utterly aweful this season. Civelli will casue hell for defenders and we will look much more of a threat going forward.
If we sign Sol Campbell the defensive line will be so much more secure, he will comand the defence and with him in the back four we would look so much better on paper aswell
Rosinior Campbell Bruce Delany (give him time and will start to play better)

We must keep Begovic aswell - quality keeper and along with Leadbitter, one of keanes best signings so far.

I read the blog "Is sacking Keano a Senisible option?" and i couldnt agree with him more. You just have to look at our team to know that we have got quality players and that our league position is unjust.

Against Watford, there were very very promising moments. Walters had a couple of chances and their keeper played well. Plus, a draw away against Plymouth isnt a bad result. I didnt go, but, i was pleased to see Colback in the team. The result has kept us in with a great chance of getting out of the relegation zone in the next couple of weeks. Also, if you have seen the highlights you will know that we did have late chances, one of which was cleared off the line.

Well done to all the U'17's in this article, but i really commented on this so that people could see my views.

I believe we are going to start moving up the table. Starting on saturday.

COYB!!!!

Despite all our problems with the first team at the moment, it's always nice to sit back every now and then and realise that at least we are still a club right at the top when it comes to grooming good young talent at an early age.

Fine, these 3 lads are irish, but not like they play for a country half way round the world! And then you look at all the young english talent we have on our books as well. Makes me proud to be a town fan.

We come on this website day in day out as fans, and I think sometimes these stories are overshadowed by the sack keane issue, but at least we can say our academy is strong as ever and our traditions as this kind of club remain.

COYB! In Keane I trust, still!
