Keane Dismisses Taylor Claims and Moves for Trialist
Keane Dismisses Taylor Claims and Moves for Trialist
Friday, 30th Oct 2009 09:55

Roy Keane has denied claims that Peter Taylor spent two days coaching Town before being told he wouldn’t be joining the Blues boss’s backroom staff. Keane has also revealed that he is looking to sign one of the three trialists who played for the reserves against Norwich City on Wednesday, almost certainly Senegalese left-back Ibrahima Faye.

Keane dismissed this morning’s newspaper claims that Taylor had spent time working with his squad: “Peter Taylor hasn’t taken any training sessions.

“I spoke with Peter during the week and we discussed a few things and we both decided we’d go our separate ways. It’s very straightforward. Peter’s a top coach and a good man, but we both decided we’d go our separate ways in terms of working together. It didn’t work out and I wish Peter well.”

Keane also knocked down a report earlier this week that claimed he had had bids turned down for Stoke pair Danny Higginbotham and Leon Cort: “I’ve not spoken to anyone from Stoke, I’ve made no offers for any of their players.”

The Blues boss says the search for new players and coaches continues: “Every day we look at players that we think we might be able to get that can improve the squad. We’re always looking at players, staff, medical staff, anything that can improve the club.

“But we’ve had made offers, the only managers I’ve spoken to regarding players are managers who have been in touch about some of my players.

“I’ve been saying for a number of weeks that we’re lacking a bit of experience in one or two positions, but other than that I’m very happy with the group of players I’ve got. If I wasn’t looking to improve the squad in terms of the players and the staff, I wouldn’t be doing my job. That happens on a daily basis.”

Keane says he is looking to sign one of the three trialists who were in action in the reserves on Wednesday with Senegalese international defender Ibrahima Faye having caught the eye more than Icelandic U19 international strike pair Ragnar Leosson and Pape Mamadou Faye: “We’ll look to make progress on one of them in the next one or two days.

The Town manager wouldn’t confirm the identity of the player but when asked refused to rule out that his target was Ibrahima Faye: “Might be.”

Faye, who started at left-back for the reserves before moving to left midfield and can also operate at centre-half, was with French side Troyes until the summer. The 30-year-old has previously played for SM Caen and Red Star 93 in France and Belgian side KAA Gent. Capped three times by Senegal, he has recently been on trial with Stoke City and Leicester.

Keane says the discussions are still in their early stages: “He’s not with any club. We’ll see how negotiations go over the next one or two days. We’re in talks with the boy’s agent and we know how long that can take but we’re hopeful.

“The boy did well, he was in a couple of weeks ago and we played him in the reserve game against Norwich and he did well. He’s a big strong boy.

Keane says he will also continue to keep an eye on the progress of the other two trialists: “It wasn’t necessarily about these three boys playing the one game, we’re going to monitor certain players, of course we are.”

I have my theory - Taylor was going to become assistant manager, however, now that the Hull chairman has stepped down, the EX Derby chairman will climb aboard the hull ship and take Taylor with him - i believe these were the two together at hull.

The anti Roy boys will no doubt point the finger at Roy - but most of this is speculation.

I'd like to see trotter start tommorow, against watford we controlled midfield and he was brillaint as the holding midfielder.
3 points in the bag i think 3-0

i would like to see walters back on the right side of midfield and priskin and stead start. not really had a good look at edwards yet but he dont seem to be adding much but i may be wrong

Edwards is a real talent and has to be involved, Walters and Pablo up front is the right pairing, although I do want to see Priskin play!!

Maybe try walters on the right, edwards on the left, leadbitter trotter in middle, stead and priskin up front?

i like walters i think he is a real asset but he dont score enough for my liking but he should defo start as his work rate and desire make up for it thats why jim turned him into a midfielder

superblueflude, have u not been watching the same matches as me?! Trotter in Midfield? i hate to be negative about the team i love but I cannot remember seeing a poorer midfielder in a town shirt for a long time! I cannot and will never see how the guy gets a game! We should have shipped him out out to scunny when we had the chance! No one frustrates me more on a Sat than this guy! His laid back attitude, his wayward passes, and being polite at best this guy is a "donkey" am i not alone in my thoughts?! im afraid not,,,,,, Norris will take that role in weeks to come and in the mean time talented players like Jacky C, quinny should feel the role in "my opinion" ;)

Ipswichtillidie, fair comments, but i know there a many fans who share my opinion that our midfield was very different against plymouth than it was against Watford - Trotter enables leadbitter to get forward and does the defensive midfeild role well, yes he has bad areas - but he's young and learning and i for one would give him chance, agreed norris will take his place and rightly so as i rate norris very highly, but right now, for me Trotter is the right choice.

After seeing Stead come on and work really hard and get a goal on Saturday, I think he should get a chance to start. Who to play along side him though I'm not so sure.

Well guessing Derby will play a 4-5-1 how about to get through the midfield we play 5 as well with Stead up front. Edwards, Leadbitter, Ed Upson, trotter and Quinn? Midield?

Roy Keane is taking this club places where we don't want to go, and I don't just mean in terms of league position.
This is teaching us a lesson for driving out Magilon!

I think we will start 4-4-2 with Begovic - D.Wright, Bruce, Smith, Rosenior -
Quinn, Peters, Grantbitter, Edwards - Walters, Stead. I' m not sure that would be the team that I would start but I think Keano seems quite settled with the majority of these players

Have not logged in a while. So any news??? New loanees? New Manager? New coach? No?

Same old story then. Think we have a good chance on Saturday of getting that elusive win. Derby's away record is pretty poor but they managed two scoreless draws. 2 nil no problem.

Although we are all concerned with our current league position (ChambersM and others) I do think with Civelli & Norris on their way back and the team playing a lot better of late, I don't think it will be long before we get back to winning ways. This season is going to be tough and mid table is probably the best we can hope for with the dreadful start we've had but I do believe with this set of players (with possibly a couple of additions) we will have a good chance of pushing for promotion next season.
We must keep up our support for the players and Keane as this will only help them. Criticising and moaning will only put the management and players under more pressure and give them less confidence. Give the team a huge cheer at PR on Saturday and lets give them the boost to set them on the way to that elusive first victory. Lets get PR rocking

looks like a few journalists are making things up again as Taylor has not said he took training sessions!
Be interesting to find out why he's not coming but guess we will never know the reasons why.
Its now up to Keano and the players to show they dont need help from Taylor...starting tomorrow

Would I trust the Daily Mirra story? or the quotes from Keane and David Wright that Taylor did not take training. It's a pity he is not coming, but you can only have one boss.

Well it goes like this - if town don't win this afternoon RK gets the bullet. It would not have been a smart move to get PT in with RK ,if RK life's is about to fall apart
