Burley on Pre-season

George Burley has said everyone reported for pre-season training fit and healthy as Town start readying themselves for another assault on the Premiership.

The Town manager said: "Everybody's fine, they all trained today and are raring to go. We're all looking forward to it."

The Town players will face a week-and-a-half intensive fitness training at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook before going off to Finland for the usual Scandinavian pre-season tour. Burley said they will assess everyone during this period. Regarding Pablo Couñago Burley said: "We'll try to get him settled in as soon as possible."

Pre-season has changed since the manager's days as a player. Back then the early stages consisted of weights and a lot of running. The Town players did a bit of fitness training this morning, but there was some ball work this afternoon, Burley again: "We've changed things over the years. Last year we introduced Simon Thadani (fitness coach). We've worked hard to try to eliminate the injuries you sometimes get at this time of the year."

Burley said that Town are confident for the new season: "We're going into the season with plenty of confidence. We showed last year we can compete in the Premiership and it is important that we keep improving."

Town's attacking policy, particularly away from home was a feature of last season and Burley aims to keep this going: "Our principles will not change. We will continue in the same manner. Last year the squad performed at a terrific level."

The Town manager is till looking at additions to his squad: "We'll be looking at bringing in one or two players over the next few weeks."

This season sees Town return to Europe, but Burley is keen that the Premiership be the main focus: "It's lovely for players and fans to be involved in Europe. But that takes care of itself. The Premiership is the priority."
