Quiet Start to Deadline Day
Quiet Start to Deadline Day
Thursday, 26th Nov 2009 08:50

The final day on which Football League clubs can sign players on emergency loans has got off to a quiet start on the Town front with a claim the Blues and Middlesbrough are chasing £2 million-rated Hearts left-back Lee Wallace the only link in this morning’s tabloids. Clubs have until 5pm today to add to their squads.

Wallace, who Town couldn’t sign until January when the transfer window opens in any case as he currently plays in a foreign league, was previously mentioned in connection with a switch to Portman Road earlier in the month, although Roy Keane subsequently dismissed the claim as nothing more than “speculation”.

Keane has said he is targeting a striker and another player before today’s deadline. At Tuesday’s AGM he revealed that the frontman he is after is currently playing for a club outside the Premier League.

Yesterday, sources in Cumbria reported that Carlisle had turned down a Town bid to sign former Leeds and Ireland defender Ian Harte.

Ipswich has never been a draw for major players, our fans seem to struggle with this. The so called big names we sign never work out for us anyway, unless we are willing to spend a lot of money on a striker (which we already did with Priskin) I do not expect to see anyone of any value coming in and nor do I think it will make any difference to how we do anyway. Keep the money for next season.

Is it asking a bit too much to get a manager in on loan today?

bedsitfc added 09:47 - Nov 26
i have heard one report stating harte is on his way, how true????
but i do think we need to look at lower leagues for talent that will see ipswich as a step up and lee bernard or simeon jackson will look at town as that

Barnard could be worth a punt, he is out of contract at the end of the season so wouldnt cost too much.

What's the point in all the speculation. All it does it gives people the chance to slag the club and Keano off further. It is my view that TWTD have a responsibilty to the club and it's supporters to refuse to print anything other than absolutely concrete facts (that means a divulged source) about players who may or (may not, in most cases) be joining the club.
We struggle at the moment to have a consistent satrting 11 anyway, what quality over and above the current crop do we realistically expect to attract on an emergency loan basis?
any report that starts with "according to tabloid reports" should be banned from this site hencewith!

Dan Harding for left back, Shumi to partner Leadbitter, and Alan Lee plus Shefki Kuqi to give a bit of bite to the forward line

PaulC how boring would that make this site, the fotoball world is built on speculation and media stories which half the time end up as not being true!

This site would be rubbish if we didnt have the rumours to talk about.

Gio, Bale wold do nicely

In answer to the original question;

No one. The current theme of quality players not wanting to come here will continue.
