Town Waiting on Wright Results
Town Waiting on Wright Results
Monday, 30th Nov 2009 20:00

Town are awaiting the results of a scan on Richard Wright's knee injury. The keeper was replaced in the first half of Sunday’s 2-1 victory at Cardiff after colliding with Michael Chopra and underwent the scan earlier today.

Boss Roy Keane told the club site: "Wrighty doesn't go down for nothing but we will know more when we have seen the result of the scans."

Elsewhere, Cardiff sub keeper Peter Enckelman has revealed that he was involved in a car accident the day before the Town game: "I had a lucky escape. My car left the road in very wet conditions on Saturday. The car may be written off, but the important thing is I wasn't hurt, although I was shaken up."

Meanwhile, Town midfielder Owen Garvan says the Blues can make a swift ascent of the Championship in the next few weeks: "It's a busy time but if we can get something in our away game [at Bristol City next week], it gives us a massive chance to push on with the two home matches to come.

"We know we have drawn too many games but if we can start picking up wins then you can soon shoot up the table and that's what we have to look at doing.

"The Championship is very tight and looking at the Cardiff game, you wouldn't have thought one team was in the top seven and the other down at the bottom.

"Cardiff are a good team but we came out in the second half and got on top of the game and I think we deserved the win. It's given everyone a lift and now we have to push on."

It won't be Murphy as he doesn't sign until January.

Is it me or was yesterday's game cursed if you were a keeper for us or Cardiff?

Who'd be a keeper? The answer to all this is clear my friends:-

Wrighty is a massive doubt and we will be able to get a keeper in I'm guessing - on the grounds that our two fit keepers have 1 game between them.

And if we got him as an emergency loan, we could use him to buff up and polish all the club's trophies, door handles and knockers. Oh no sorry, that's Brasso.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Roy bring a keeper in - looks like Wright will miss the weekend - and although ALB did okay - lets face it he had little to do thanks to McAuley and Delaney. Murphy may be number one in January, although rumours suggest we may be looking to sign Begovic. Did he play for Portsmouth on Saturday?

Yes - but let in 4 goals, including a Rooney hat-trick. This could have happened to anyone lets face it! Pompey are a poor side who I think are building for next year as rumours suggest that James will go to Spurs in January and Begovic will the No.1 choice for the rest of this year and next year in the Championship.

Yes Amir did play for Portsmouth against Man Utd - let in 4 goals (2 of them penalties).

We signed Begovic on loan til Christmas ...Portsmouth recall him due to an injury to David James... If James is fit again , say next week ..... does our original loan deal still stand ???

its very doubtfull that we will get emergency dispensation, as we already have 2 senoir goalkeepers waiting in barret and mclouglin. if one of those gets injured then maybe but it looks like we are gonna have to stick with barret. home grown lad, want to see him do well

This is in response to hedgy94's "everyone saying he didn't play badly because he didn't have tooo do anything!! but bloody kick it man!" comment.

i agree that there wasn't much for him to do in the save department, but if you've ever been a goalkeeper, or ever even played football you should know that there's far more to a keepers game then just making saves.

his talking was great, his kicking was flawless and i remember one moment in particular when around about the 86th min ALB came out to bunch a ball that was heading for the pen spot. he not only managed to get distance on it, but he also took Jay Bothoryd with, who isn't small, and leave him flat. this would've given the defence confidence going into the last few minutes and would have given JB second thoughts when going for the next ball i.e. he would've been thinking more about ALB and a possible punch than the ball.

considering he was thrown in unannounced to fill RW boots, which isn't easy, in a team that is already stuggling, for his first game, away, in front of his old team....i think he did very well. plus, he is a local lad. i hope he gets his chance on sat and i hope he keeps his place, if he proves he is capable of sustaining the sort of maturity he showed on sunday.

norwich_are_rubbish your comments show you know nothing about goalkeeping, Wrightys only wobble came when the whole defence was wobbling, now it's better I'm sure he will be, funny how he was our best player last season and now he's rubbish!! If it hadn't been for Wrighty at WBA this season we would have conceeded 6 or 7, as I've said b4 great shot stopper but suspect on crosses, always has been!
Get well soon Wrighty your team needs you!!

Oh & Townfan good points on ALB's performance on Sunday, not easy for the lad but thought he did well.

On the bright side Wright did keep a clean sheet.

Devon, Wrighty was causing the defense to wobble and soon as Asmir took over in goal you could see the confidence rising.

I'm glad to hear the positivity about ALB. From what townfan was saying, taking out Bothroyd doesn't look like an easy task and important commanding actions will give the defence confidence. Any keeper would know that generally doing nothing in a game is something of a plus as if your goal is getting peppered with shots means that the defence aren't doing their job properly.

Personally, I would like to see ALB start this Saturday. Instead of constantly buying and loaning players, I feel we should start to develop the players we already have - this will help their confidence and give them experience!

See you all at Ashton Gate!
