Town Linked With Hulse Move
Town Linked With Hulse Move
Friday, 18th Dec 2009 09:30

Town have been linked with a move for Derby County frontman Rob Hulse. Wolves, Newcastle and Middlesbrough are also said to be chasing the £2.5 million-rated striker but the Blues are said to be the frontrunners for his signature.

Hulse, 30, started his career with hometown club Crewe Alexandra before moving on to West Brom, Leeds and Sheffield United.

The 6ft 1in tall striker, who is contracted until 2011, has scored six goals for Derby this season, having joined the Rams in the summer of 2008.

Elsewhere, Town, Sheffield United and Cardiff City are said to be monitoring Marlon Harewood’s time on loan at Newcastle with a view to possibly signing him on a short-term spell from Aston Villa if the Magpies decide not to extend his time on Tyneside. Harewood was previously on loan with the Blues in 1999, scoring one goal in five starts and one sub appearance.

Meanwhile, Hartlepool are reported to be closing in on the loan signing of Colin Healy, as first rumoured earlier in the week. Healy has hardly featured for the Blues since his move from Cork in the summer when Town nipped in ahead of Pools to land the Irish international’s signature.

On Tuesday, chief executive Simon Clegg revealed that the Blues are hoping to seal one or two loan moves out of the club before Christmas.

And finally, young Cheltenham Town keeper Joe Perry is spending time with the Blues this week on work experience. The 17-year-old has previously been named in Welsh U15, U16 and U17 squads.

This guy has been on-off his whole career, is this someone we really want? We need someone who can play make and partner Stead and although Hulse has had good spells (but never made an impact in the top flight), I dont think hes the man.

Paper talk, the time has come for us to be linked with every Tom,Dick + Harry. Hulse is good better option would be Philips(short term) and maybe a forward from a prem club. Birmingham did it one year, borrowed a couple of Arsenal kids and got promoted.

I've never really rated Hulse, always seen him as a bit of a donkey. £2.5 million? No way!

too much like stead for my me, we need someone who is direct and has pace and who has a proven track record for scoring at this level

hulse is a very good championship player, gets goals if he gets the service and also played with stead at sheff utd so maybe them 2 could form a partnership, 2.5mill for a 30 year old championship player is abit steap i would pay that much for him sheff utd paid 2.2mill at his peak!

harewood would be a very good purchase, yet again hes a championship player but has a premiership mould in him...hes big, strong, gets goals in the championship and proven to get goals in the prem although hasnt worked out for him at villa, and he have certainly missed the physical pressence upfront since shefki left...we need some1 to outmuscle defenders and be good in the air aswell...maybe a loan deal in january till end of the season before making a permanent move for harewood

Great shout welshtractor. Hulse is not the sort of player we need. Very much hit and miss. It is difficult but we need a proven striker and Phillips could do this job for us. get the goals we need to get into the premiership and then attract a premiership striker. Any club in the championship (Possibly bar Newcastle) will have difficulty attracting top class strikers. Strikers by nature are show offs and want to be in the spot light and have that tag of a "Premiership striker" whether they are in the reserves or just a fringe player. So when we try and go for these players its a question of how much do they want to play football. That is why Connor will stay with us as he just wants to play football and hungry for games.

Please god nooooooooooooooooooooo! Steady is better than him, to similar we need a nippy little git ho gets 20-25 a season, not a big berk how gets 8 goals a season.

How about Lee Barnard from Southend, former Spurs player who has consistantly scored, although at a lower level, but could step up & do a job for us!

I can't see why Derby would want to get rid of him if he is that good. 6 goals this season doesn't seem a lot and they are hardly in the top 6, are they?

they r nearer the top 6 than we are

Not surprised to see this kind of story cropping up now, couple of weeks till the window opens, players after better deals/contract extensions, agents stirring a quiet media pot...

We need a David Johnson/Marcus Stewart type of striker: fast, agile, not afraid to have a punt on a half chance.

Any takers?

Would be very disappointed if we signed him - that's a lot of money for us (I don't care how much M.E. has to throw about!) to spend on a 30-year-old who's no great shakes at the moment (and no better than what we already have), and isn't likely to improve...

I'd prefer to see R.K. nail his colours to the mast and give Priskin a proper run in the side - I know his style of play hasn't endeared him to some Town fans, but I'm sure the lad's got goals in him. He scored quite a few last season latching onto the type of through-balls that Garvan can make, but I think he's the type of player that needs a few matches to sharpen the timing of his runs / finishing - and then hopefully when he gets one the floodgates will open :^D

I'd rather Aaron Mclean or Jordan Rhodes but I'd take Hulse in exhange for Priskin!

No way to both Harewood and Hulse. I think from all the messages on this board it shows that these are probably bogus claims!

slightly concerned with what Clegg is saying about the debt.......i think we should try for Billy Sharp in Jan

isn't marlon king available for free? his scoring record in championship is very good...

1.7 million for Priskin, 2.5 for Hulse. Jesus, inflation is worse than I thought, I'll be paying £560.00 for a loaf of bread soon!

Priskin has been given a run in the side and looked very lazy ,featured in 15 league games and scored 1 . He had one good season and scored a few high profile goals in the cup exactly what Lisbie had with Colchester before we signed him .
Give Stead and Walters a good run ,Walters wins most high balls and Stead has a record of 1 goal in 2 games started for us which is a twenty goal a season striker everyone talks about if he plays, and Walters will chip in aswell . Then have Counago and Wickham/Priskin on bench .

Nice tie Flip.

Harewood; didn't we get him a few years back ? I think he's improved since then and he'd be a much better option than a Stead clone.

If Viduka is available he'd be good on a rest of season deal.
