Honduran Linked With Town
Honduran Linked With Town
Wednesday, 27th Jan 2010 08:45

Reports in the Honduran press are linking Platense central defender Osman Chávez with a possible move to the Blues by the end of the month. Chávez has recently been on trial at Celtic and has had similar spells with a number of Premier League clubs but is yet to be offered a deal with a UK side.

The 25-year-old Honduras international impressed Tony Mowbray during his time at Parkhead but the former Town skipper decided not to offer him a contract: "Osman did exceptionally well for us, but I have made the decision that he is not quite right for us."

Prior to that spell, Chávez, who is desperate for a move into British football, is reported to have been on trial at Blackburn, Wigan, Sunderland and Tottenham.

Chávez spent 2007/08 on loan at Motagua, the club where former Town trialist Emilio Izaguirre plays his football.

Central defence is not an area where the Blues appear to need cover at present, although manager Roy Keane may want to send Pim Balkestein out on loan again to get further experience. Tommy Smith is already at Brentford and may well stay until the end of the season.

Elsewhere, Town are again being linked with Stoke centre-half Leon Cort, who is also said to be interesting West Brom, Newcastle and Middlesbrough.

The Baggies are reported to be leading the chase and are prepared to pay £750,000 for the former Southend man.

The Blues were previously linked with 30-year-old Cort in October, although Roy Keane denied having made a loan bid for the ex-Crystal Palace man.

Surco72 just going to post that comment!!!! Get him, like when we in same posistion having to sell him,we had no choice. Good shout,we need a left midfield player who can score lots of goals, forget the last time we had him on loan,go for him RK,im sure he would walk to P Road to sign for us

Ambrose is rubbish for Ipswich. As he showed on loan last season. We are a team of 10 outfield players who work as a unit. Palace were are (soon to be "were") a 2-man team with Ambrose and Moses both playing free-roles. This wouldn't work for us IMO.

On topic: what the hell are we looking for a CB for? For the first time in 10 seasons we have a decent CB-pairing... STRIKER Roy STRIKER!

Italiano palaces 2 man team have beaten us 3-1 home and away so perhaps signing one of them and plaing him as a free role alongside very energetic similar midfielders like we played last night would work ?

I must admit, a cheeky bid for Ambrose may be worthwhile. He didn't play well here before, but that was for Magilton. Maybe Keano can get more out of him?

As to the Honduran .... agree we don't need a CB, we need a striker. BUT .... this is the transfer window, journalists come up with 2+2=58, (Keano played for Celtic, this guy had trials at Celtic, therefore we must be in the market for him etc etc)

Plus we used to have Russell Osman so we must like players called 'Osman', lol (is this how journo's minds work??)

Moses is the star of that team, and I would say any team at our level. to get him would be a real statement of intent, on a par with the last great signing Marcus Stewart.

Agreed we don't need a CB, we need a striker but i wouldnt mind at all if we put a bid in for ambrose, he wasnt brilliant last year but he seems in good form now so....snap him up i say! Another point, don't send Pim out on loan again...did anyone see that run he made last night?! Bit more composure and we would have gone 2 up!

Pim's run was indeed class, reminiscent of Titus charging up the pitch and falling over his shoelaces. I thought he had a good game when he came on, and he's a good alternative to Wright and Peters at LB because of his size if nothing else. If Delaney gets banned/injured, we might need him in the middle too.

Striker with a bit of pace, please. And sign Rosenior up pronto.

Boring! How many supposed foreign superstars have we now been linked with? They all seem to fizzle out. Is this a reflection of the fact that we can't get any UK players in?

Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has admitted that he wants to step up his search for a new striker-SKY-----------
Phillips,Mcsheffrey, both would booster our attack, would not cost much, and would turn our draws into wins

Sure sign a striker but if there's any player available in any position that's better than what we've got then why not sign them?

MarcusSG - agree totally, I don't care if our defence looks solid, if another player comes in who is the business then I would be happy to have him within the team.
But again this is a link so it may be totally nothing.

Surco - I believe we were, maybe a loan with a view to sign perm?
also, Surco - would you possibly have Alan lee back on the cheap? instead of extending johns stay?
im only asking you Surco as we do have good banter together and tend to agree on some transfer targets as well.

As much as I would personally like us to get at least a striker I don't get any impression that we will effectively signing or loaning anybody ( I am open to surprises from Mr Keane ). Poaching Ambrose or Moses would be good ..but can't see it happening. I too had big hopes that with ME and Keane we would state some intent in looking to bid for decent players ..even audacious bids would at least show the CCC teams and our own supporters that we meant business. Our disasterous start has not helped the cause. One main worry for myself (only my opinion) is that at times we don't have any particular type of reliable player on the bench to call upon if things need changing ( yes we have Wickham but still lots to learn) I would imagine that last night few fans were over inspired by the subs that came on ( though Pim's efforts were good) We all go on about past players but we need a Reuser ..ok not necassarily a 90 min player ..but a def impact player lets face it the only player who would be chanted for off the bench by the fans today is Pablo

Superblueflude I have to say I was worried about mentioning his name, but I would have Alan Lee back in a flash. I was a huge fan and I was really disapointed when he left (and played in that disgusting yellow and green shirt).

Isn't part of the reason they went into adminisstration because Palace still owe us money for him.

we could do a double swoop, and bring ambrose and Lee back. 2 quality players that now how to fight.

Ambrose is a good shout but aren't we about to sign that American guy who can play on the wing? Yao? Can't imagine Keane would move for Ambrose unless this falls through.

As for strikers, I thought last night was the best striking partnership we have seen for a while. This was helped by the defence trying to play to Stead and Pablo's feet, admitedly they sometimes just hoofed it up but you could see there was a genuine effort to avoid the hoof and play to feet and I thought it worked well, maybe against a lesser team we would have seen more chances created from playing this way?

Also, Delaney and Peters were awesome last night and Pim looked really sharp when he came on, unlucky not to get a shot off at the end of the run and even Priskin looked good (apart from the one lazy offside and inability to hold the ball in corner).

After hearing interviews from Moses recenlty I can't see him wanting to come to town as he was looking to play in the prem, don't get me wrong I'd love to have him here but think we have to be realistic with some of the 'bigger' clubs sniffing around. Bit gutted to hear gio has gone to play for galatasary but again would have been a long shot! Shane long wouldn't be a bad signing had shown alot of promise in the past. I really do struggle to think of players who are good enough and would want to actually play for us.

13.05 Tottenham midfielder Giovani dos Santos has joined Galatasaray on loan for the remainder of the season---No more talk on this---Gio has gone, never to play again for us!!! shame we all liked him,and he always made an impact, life goes on--Keano bring in that forward who would change darws to wins. Please

totally agree ambrose and lee back, forget his spell with norwich and remember he never wanted to leave town but due too bad feelings between magilton and lee over an unathorised trip to dublin was forced out

It is clear to me that we do not need another centre-back. The current partnership is strong and performing heroics at times. We have Bruce, Balkestein and also Smith as cover. I do hope that this is all press nonesense. Ambrose would certanly inject that creativity and midfield goal threat into our team and he is not devoid of a bit of pace - something we lack in attack. Forget his loan spell last season which I agree was less thann successful. He is a good player and would benefit our team but there is one thing that would stand in the way imo - Lee Martin! Ambrose is successfully doing what we bought Martin here to do. Creating and scoring goals as an attacking midfielder. Martin is on a long contract and to sign Ambrose now would be like Keane admitting Lee Martin has been a flop. Not sure Alan Lee is what we need either. We lack pace up front and despite his obvious attributes and my disappointment when he moved on, Lee is sadly lacking in this respect too.
