Town to Opt Against Stern Stay
Town to Opt Against Stern Stay
Thursday, 28th Jan 2010 17:21

Town have opted against extending Crystal Palace striker Stern John’s stay at Portman Road, according to reports in south London. The 33-year-old's loan spell ends after Saturday’s game at Preston.

The Trinidad and Tobago international is in his second month with the Blues and has scored once in seven starts and one sub appearance.

Last week, boss Roy Keane said he would look at resolving John's future early this week: “We want to be fair to Palace and to Stern so won't let it go to the very last day of January.

"With Stern’s situation, because we had him [for a month] previously, if we’re going to take him it would have to be for the rest of the season.”

John has said he would like to remain with the Blues on a number of occasions since joining the club in late November.

Meanwhile, former loanee Moritz Volz is reported to be training with QPR, having been unsuccessful in trials with Schalke 04 and Hertha Berlin back in his native Germany.

Another ex-Town loanee, Portsmouth keeper Asmir Begovic, is reportedly the subject of an approach from Tottenham Hotspur.

Thanks for the two months of servive Stern and all the best for the future.

I have to agree with Roy's decision though - but Stern filled a hole when needed and scored one cruial goal, setting up another. Plus his performance at Cardiff was good.

ermmm, does it strike (sorry...) anybody that as a team lacking the cutting edge, we are losing maybe 3 strikers? does seem a bit odd! and with days left in the market...

Hmm, what with this news and the possible loan to QPR of Priskin, do I sense that Keane has found a decent striker who actually wants to come to PR? I live in hope

Think Priskin could still come good so getting him out on loan (but only if he's going to play regularly) will be good for him. Pablo is better at hold up play than John and now seems to score so hopefully he wont leave. Not sorry to see John going back, hasn't really set the place on fire, hopefully this means we're close to bringing someone in.

Yep - owe some thanks to Stern for helping us through a dodgy spell; I hope the situation at Palace doesn't make life too tricky for him.

Personally, I think all 4 of our strikers should be ready to kick on now for the rest of the season. I'd like to see us starting matches with Stead and Priskin - giving Priskin more time on the pitch, he could hopefully carve out a few chances for himself (like the one against the Baggies), and I'd back him to stick one away :^D

I'd prefer to see Wickham (because of his age) and Pablo (who's been scoring his goals coming off the bench anyway) being our striker subs at the moment.

David healy? Prob not my first choice but he wants to play championship footie and obviously rk knows him well, would rather have him than stern john. Mmm still not sure whether we'll shell out any money for a player would surely be a loan signing?

this looks like another striker being bought in. Personally i dont think we need anyone, if we play priskin then he will find form quickly and bang goals in. Im not sure how fans can disrespect him as he only played a handfull of games when we were playing bad. Give Tamas a chance. Little sad to see stern go as he holds the ball up well for us when we plays, his work rate isnt great but give the ball to his feet and works well with it. He is much stronger than pablo in that possition. Im am very hopeful that pablo goes. Hes not very good in my view and he is so lazy, a real luxury.

I got that one completely wrong. I thought that the injury to Walters would certainly see Stern John stay but no! He has, as others have said, not set the world on fire in his time at PR but he has served a purpose, notching his goal against Coventry (could have had another against Posh which was dubiously ruled out) and he played Walters in beautifully for the first against QPR. I wish him well and considering Palace's problems he might well find himself in their first team as they off-load Moses and one or two others. Actually, it might not be that we do not want him but that Palace need him back??? Does this mean RK has somebody else lined up to come in and boost our attacking line? I hope so but i have my doubts.I was wrong about John, hope I am wrong and RK brings in someone exciting - pace please Roy, that's what we are missing up front!!! If the media is to be believed, Forest & WBA are battling out for Moses at around £1.5 - 2 million. He would be great - dream on I suppose.
